* takes 5 personal chefs with him to UK!
Amongst the 700 people needed for his Imperial Highness, Emperor George's visit to the UK were no less than five personal chefs.

The Queen was not amused.

17. Sure does
but doesn't beat Clinton's $50 Million plus visit to China and south Asia. Wow, Bush brought 5 chefs! Clinton brought freaking 77 air force planes including 27 C-5s and C-17s! Over 2,000 people as well!

Not to defend Bush, but this amount of "stuff" brought on this trip, and the cost to US taxpayers is dwarfed by other presidential trips.

23. Unfortunately
this is the only source I could come up with quickly that pulls it all together into one location. I hate to post this site and wish I had more time to expend on doing an extensive search to provide a multitude of links. Will try to do so when I have more time. So unfortunately this will have to do for now.

http://www.senate.gov/~rpc/releases/1999/df033000.htm

Air Force Times is a subscriber service for a great amount of their archives. World News Tonight is a TV show and I have no idea how to search and find archives of transcripts of their show (as I have never tried before). And if you think I am going to wade through hundreds of thousands of GAO crap to find a single story you are out of your mind.

wanted Clinton there and didn't stage massive protests against him. BTW, if you plan on staying here long, I wouldn't use RW sources to trash Dems, especially Clinton.

From the Republican Policy Committee so I really trust that it's as slanted against Clinton as it possibly can be. This is for a TEN day trip, not a 3 day trip.

"Eight separate teams from the State Department, White House, Secret Service, and/or DOD made advance trips to Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Guilin, and Hong Kong from April 1998 through June 1998." DOD sent 123 of the 510 people who traveled to China and paid 74 percent ($14 million) of the trip's $18.8 million cost. DOD's expenses included 36 airlift missions and 7 aerial refueling missions."

http://rpc.senate.gov/~rpc/releases/1999/eb1092199.htm

On edit:

Oh, and at least the trip wasn't just a campaign photo-op to boost sagging ratings.

"Issues discussed were security, nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, economics and trade, energy and environment, science and technology, and law enforcement."

Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 03:31 PM by WorstPresidentEver
for a three day visit to our closest (and now only) ally. Clinton took 510 for a 10 day multi-city visit to China. So who's for "big Government" ? Whos the arrogant son of a bitch? And Clinton could even meet oridnary members of the British public unlike the Monkey-King who had to cower behind 1,000s of police.

2. Eric Alterman mentioned it today.
It's bad enough he insults ordinary Americans. Now he has to insult the Queen of England? Is there no limits to this man's boorishness?

33. Hold on thar...
There are those of us here that think ol'Lizzie could use a few reminders of her mere mortality -- if * was born on third and thinks he hit a triple, Liz was born diving onto Home in the bottom of the ninth in Game 7 of the World Series and thinks she lead her team to victory.

Trouble is, * is only insulting her by accident; he's actually trying to do the whole "court" thing.

7. loved the write up
"Too many cooks spoil the President." and the fact "Her Majesty greeted the news that Bush was coming with his own chefs in absolute silence . . .
her general way of expressing disapproval. She's not thought to be thrilled about the whole visit anyway, but when you consider that she has excellent cooks herself, you can see why this would be taken as a bit of an insult."

what and absolute jerk the man is!

I've never been to England. I have to take your word on English food.

But, my God. Be tactful, for Christ's sake. You're a guest in another country. Don't insult...the Queen of England no less...your hosts.

I have to say it, but Bush is living the stereotype of the "ugly American" overseas.

What would have happened? How much of his 3 hours would Limbaugh have devoted to railing against Clinton for this terrible insult? Would an investigation have been started and they would have been forced to pay for all the chef's expenses?

37. this is disgusting and obscene
that Bush has cost so much in order to make a three day photo op in London. They are laughing it up, all of them, while our boys and girls have died in Iraq.

This trip accomplished nothing for the people of America, and was not a benefit to us, but was calculated to accomplish a whole lot for Bush and his frum o lump wife.

Well they looked like ignorant hicks, acted like ignorant hicks, and spent out money on stupid looking upholstry fabric gowns for the frum o lump Laura--. Thanks a lot, Laura--or can you parse that behind the Xanax haze?

Bush is a spendthrift--and, not to mention the comical absurdities his frump of a wife spent thousands of dollars upon to dress herself in upholstry fabric and clothing that is bizarre and classless and clueless--what a wasterel trip-and we dear folks, are paying for it. We of the humble beginnings and the humble abodes are paying for Laura to dress herself up in ridiculous clothing and to tell us, as a side, that the war in Iraq was "necessary" for our freedoms.

Do you think we should demand to know how much this debacle cost us? HOw much it cost to dress up Laura in table cloths and seat cushions? Where can we find the numbers that wil tell us how much of our money Laura spent on her burlap dress or her curtain gown, designed by "American designers" whoever they are. No one has come forth to claim how elegant she looked in their designs.

38. Then there was that "photo op" on the aircraft carrier
Abraham Lincoln on May 1st that proclaimed "Mission Accomplished," while Americans are still dying in Iraq everyday almost seven months later. How much did that cost us? And I don't just mean in dollars and cents. This guy is an abomination.:grr:
