Iraqi Fighters: Yankees Go Home
Somewhere In Iraq, July 21, 2003

(CBS) In an exclusive interview with CBS News, three men who claim to have participated in several recent and deadly attacks on U.S. soldiers say they're not doing it for love of Saddam -- but instead for God and their country.

U.S. officials blame "remnants of Saddam's regime" -- "dead enders" they call them -- for the unending attacks.

"Are any of you former Saddam loyalists? Work for Saddam? Love Saddam?" asked CBS News Correspondent David Hawkins.

The men all shook their heads "no" as a translator said, "They just follow the instruction of Holy Koran."

1. I saw that over the weekend
This is why I'm saying killing Saddam isn't going to win * anything but a temporary upswing. He kills Saddam, the American soldiers continue to die...who does he blame it on? Things continue to get even "untidier," and Murika wakes up.

5. Blame it on OBL!
Unless OBL bites it first then he can continue to blame Sadaam.

If Sadaam get's it, he will blame everyone in that stupid deck of playing cards until they run out of pictures.

What happens after that is anyones guess.

4. Quicksand
One of the columnists for my local newspaper in an elderly woman who is very liberal. She usually writes about fluffy topics but she did address Iraq. She accurately described Iraq as being "quicksand" instead of a "quagmire."

8. Bush people try to frame it
as the dark and unthinkably sinister Satan and his evil spawn, the face of evil, evil personified, evil most foul vs the good, clean, white, true, honest and benevolent US redeemer. The reality is that it is a broad spectrum of organised groups resisting the occupation and fighting for their own autonomy.

Had to laugh tonight while watching one of the usual talk show retired-generals-turned-pundit insist the "US had to release the photos to convince the Ameri, er the Iraqis of US good intent..."
lol...

9. Two SOBs and one assault rifle....
Remember last October when two assholes with an assault rifle shut down the DC metropolitan area?

Pop up, shoot somebody, disappear. They never would have been caught if they had not started sending letters to the police.

A few thousand SOBs and many assault riles, no effective police force, our forces don't speak the local language--you've got an unfixable mess.

10. Just when I think I am certifiable...
I find out I'm not. I was surprised at the spin on this, harking back to the war, oh, we're so grateful, we're so grateful, blah, blah, blah.

The media wingnuts portray every second or third world country as orphan children straight out of a Dickens movie, asking for more mush and ever so grateful to get it, instead of the intelligent adults that they are. It's racism and nationalism in it's worst form, really, "oh those poor foreigners, they want what we have so badly, which entitles us to anything they have, we're sure they will understand. Just to be near us, have some of our illustrious citizens in their country, they will put up will all kinds of larceny."

I'm so glad the media is giving a little attention to this. We're all over dem. legislators about being spineless, but who really need to re-grow their cojones in this country are journalists. They need to go back to investigative reporting (so Palast won't be so lonely) and actually reporting news instead of kissing right-wing ass. What started with a stray remark by a bleach blonde and may end with Bush in a double bind is really bringing reporting back to life in this country. Long live the Dixie Chicks!
