The Coming Race War by Carl Rowan

I am reading that book right now. I found it by accident at the local public library here.

I did find something interesting. While I don't agree with everything he says I do find it interesting. It reminds me of the mid 1990s and how the militias were the main news item.

And then it made me remember the 1996 anti-terrorism bill that the Republicans fought tooth and nail. I wonder why this recent past--the time when Republicans were defending the likes of David Koresh and the Branch Davidians--gets little to no mention.

3. It was written back in the mid 1990s

1) He talks about the militias and the danger that they and Int'l terrorists pose the country. He fears a future terrorist attack.

2) He attacks Fararrakan, Cokeley, Limbaugh, Bob Grant, Ollie North, G. Gordon Liddy, and Al Sharpton.

3) He then reviews how every GOP president since Nixon has used racially charged rhetoric.

4) He then talks about the BS that the Bell Curve is and debunks the common misconceptions of affirmative action and welfare.

5) He then talks about the OJ Simpson Case.

6) The book ends with a discussion on Colin Powell and why the GOP would never nominate him for president.

7. Thanks, jiacinto! One other question for you...

Does he believe right-wingers are trying to actively manipulate the nation into a race war, or does he think it's something that's going to slip the leash from the seeds they bred and take on a life of its own?

I wish we had a national press that would point out some of the "interesting little facts" you mentioned about right wingers in the 90s. A free press that was interested in something other than celebrity scandal would have sunk this administration a long time ago.

And he blames both sides, both black and white for it. He keeps on saying that the continued poverty of our inner cities, coupled with the rise of the militias, is a tinder box waiting to catch fire.
