"LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- It may not be politically expedient for retired Gen. Wesley Clark to campaign in his home state of Arkansas, but it sure offered a welcome respite Friday."

"The line snaked out the door and around the corner at Wordsworth Books in Little Rock up to an hour before Clark began signing copies of his new book, "Winning Modern Wars: Iraq, Terrorism and the American Empire."

"Clark greeted Alexey Krindatch of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a few words of Russian. Krindatch was in Little Rock on business for a few days, will be in the United States through next summer and told Clark he wanted to volunteer for his campaign in the spring.
"The general will be better in White (House) than Bush, who is paternalist like Putin," Krindatch said with a thick Russian accent. "They say, I am father of country and this is what we do. The general will invite people to take decision together."
Before heading on to Oklahoma, South Carolina, Florida and New Hampshire next week, Clark left the signing and snuck in a barber shop for a haircut. Awaiting him there was a surprise reunion with his former driver and lawyer, Lt. Col. John Edwards of the National Guard's 39th Infantry Brigade. Edwards was on an unexpected two-day leave from Ft. Hood, Texas, and it was the first time the formerly inseparable duo had seen each other since the brigade was mobilized Oct. 12."
