$1500 flak jacket - "The Interceptor"

http://www.cleveland.com/search/index.ssf?/base/iswar/1069944911205910.xml?iswar

A couple helped raise $1,500 to buy the military's best bulletproof vest to send their soldier son in Iraq because the government has not been able to get the vests to all troops.

-snip-

Nearly one-quarter of the 130,000 American troops in Iraq had not been issued the newest body armor as of last month. Delays in funding, production and shipping mean the last of the needed 30,000 sets of body armor won't be delivered to Iraq until December - more than eight months after the war began.

-snip-

Friends and family members in and around Lorain County's Henrietta Township pitched in to raise the money.
-------------------------

so the corp. that makes "The Interceptor" makes double money on the jacket. the US pays for it but it's not supplied and the parents pay for it so it gets supplied.

let's see -- $1500 each 130,000 needed -- or did the US get a reduced rate? or did the parents get a puffed up price?
