What is Drudge so afraid of? (Drudge Smears Dean)
This is just ridiculous.

Please have a look before Drudge removes it...

http://www.drudgereport.com/flash4.htm

It is titled "DEAN 'PASSION' PHOTOS: RIGHTEOUS ANGER OR RAGE?" and consists of 7 photos of Howard Dean in various stages of campaigning. That's all. Just photos. No text, no commentary, no "breaking hard." Just pictures.

Isn't this just an out-and-out, pointless smear?

I still remember what happened the week following Clark's announcement. 24hr smear threads that seemed to take up half the front page at all times. It was why the new rules were need.

38. And that sucks just as bad.
Like I've said a hundred times, he's my no. 2. Whether it's Dean or Clark, there seem to be an ultranasty little clique of dedicated bashers that spend their time digging up poop on either one, and keeping memes alive that were rendered stupid or irrelevent long ago.

Look at it this way. Obviously Clark and Dean have some serious energy behind them or the attacks wouldn't be so strong and never ending.

31. I have a feeling that A lot of folks are laughing behind his back
especially the repugs that are telling us how afraid they are of dean.

The best way to get someone to do something you want is to tell them not to, just look how well it works here on DU.

33. We can't afford to take the R's lead on these things anymore
It didn't work too well in '02.

R's used to say they hope he gets the nomination because he
couldn't win. Now they're less jocular about it, now they're a bit more desperate. Whatever.

The Dems will get more folks to the polls in direct proportion to how unlike a Republican the candidate is, and how PROUD and LOUD they are about it. Average Americans won't be coming out to vote for someone who apologises for being a democrat. Certainly the poor showing for Lieberman is some proof of that.

The pendulum has swung back as it always does. Let's make note of that. Dean and Clark certainly have.

Bush often gets high ratings on "leadership". It doesn't matter that he has led us into a bucket of crap, the fact is he is percieved as having those strong qualities of leadership. And so he does.
Dean and Clark make folks sit up and notice because they also have these qualities. it almost doesn't matter what the message is.

Our candidates' messages are what the majority of Americans hunger for. That coupled with backbone and a clear and forcefully spoken vision that is different from the current Administration is what will bring in many new voters. It's not just anger, it's hope.

10. LOL!! the one with sharpton is really funny though!
wonder what the context of that shot was- looks like they are about to rumble....
-but at least it will be difficult to caracterize a man who makes faces like that as "weak on defense" or a pacifist- the more bushco talk about his rage, the less room they have to call him a wussy liberal from vermont. and i bet bu$h would shit himself if dean looked at him like that in the middle of a debate!

Dean's support is huge and growing exponentially. His record and background are outstanding. There's just nothing they can do but resort to tabloid garbage like this.

23. Let's have photographers tail you 24/7
. . . and let's have you give about 7 speeches a week and about three debates a month.

I bet out of thousands of photographs there may be eight or ten that might make you look demonic.

I think there'd be hundreds in my case.

21. I can't believe Richard Mellon Scaife is paying for this shit
I tried to call Drudge's show tonight to ask him if he knew Charlie Dean is listed by the US government as a prisoner of war. But I just couldn't last long enough through his blather to get on. Just too much else to do in my life, like clean up the cat litter boxes, which is a pleasure compared to liistening to him whine.

When you see such typical badly done, lowest common denominator horse manure like this from Drudge, just remember one thing. Richard Mellon Scaife thinks it's worth a LOT of money.

27. He smeared Kerry
back when his numbers started to slip, when the aides left, and had something like (I don't recall the exact wording) "Staffer tells Kerry it is nearly impossible to find people willing to write checks to his campaign." I did, right after reading that.

Yeah. Drudge has an agenda. Don't we all...

35. This is the setup
A few pictures are hardly much of an attack.

But, this is the setup to introduce the general election theme of
Dean as an angry, unstable demogogue. Why?, to discredit him and
expecially his ideas and talking points.

Rove and friends have to introduce the theme "gently" into the
public consciousness. Next, it starts to get picked up by
the media. Then, it becomes associated with some very negative talking points (as the primary season progresses). Finally, come the time Dean locks up the nomination, the full blown attacks will appear, including some really nasty putdown jokes.

They really want to use the "you have the power" speeches against Dean, and they might if Dean doesn't derail them right now by appearing as much as possible in the mainstream public media and showing off his humor and how much a regular guy he is.
