Tom DeLay is insane! The "ship of fools" convention proposal:
Paraphrasing a NYT article just in: DeLay has proposed that Republicans stay aboard the "Norwegian Dawn" cruise ship while attending the NYC convention next September, calling it a safe, secure location where everyone can celebrate together. The ship has 15 decks, babbling brooks, etc. Many repuke officials, especially those from NY, are IRATE, saying it gives the impression that they are above mingling with the common people (Oh No!!), besides the obvious transfer of millions of dollars spent not in NYC but on a foreign cruise ship. Dems are loving it.

DeLay is not backing off, and I say you go guy, keep handing us votes. My position disclaimer: Tom DeLay is a member of my TOP 4 most despicable Americans, with Cheney, Rove, and AWOL.

Come - let us give them rope with which to hang themselves!

1. Ship of fools
The arrogant GOPs can get away with their shenanigans only so long. The City of NY will look on this as a slap in the face-after all, wasn't the point of having the convention there to help the NYC economy? Surely it had nothing to do with using the symbolism and 9/11 for political gain! </sarcasm>

18. Ah but just wait Delay that dispicable creature will argue that the
protesters are spending money, so we did help the NYC economy! There isn't anything these sociopaths can't spin that their flock won't buy; hook, line and sinker.

2. Someone post a DeLay picture, PLEASE.
I need a face shot (sorry) of this subhuman pig for editorial purposes.

3. ha ha, yes I will write and encourage them to do it
. . . great retaliation against the bozo who added my e-mail to several GOP mailing lists--and also gives me an excuse to post something over on FR, something I very rarely do.

But just what case can be made for it? Even my most diabolical self can't think of any good reason--guess my brain is just too evolved--the only argument I can think of is that is's "secure"--ha ha, let's hope there's nobody on the staff--most of whom will no doubt be "invisible" the way house slaves in the 19th century were "invisible"--who hates BushCo. Wouldn't I love to infiltrate that!

4. Their arrogance will bring them down
This is a supreme example of the arrogance of power gone totally beserk, the syndrome which I believe will ultimate implode the fascists. If DeLay doesn't realize how badly this will play with ALL Americans, what is that telling you about their disconnect from reality and reason?

5. And other repukes know this is a really bad idea. But they're all too
afraid of the guy to try to do anything about it. What is the deal here? Does he have something on everyone? Has he been in cahoots with Asscroft digging around in everyone's past and coming up with nasty little secrets that they don't want to come out? Why does this cretin have such a strangle hold on everyone? He's as unethical and whorish as a politician can get, why don't they turn on him? There's enough skeletons in his closet, bribes, conflict of interest, illegal campaign contributions, etc. that they should be able to pull in his reins. There's something wrong here when this jackal can jerk so many people around and make them do anything he wants.

7. Wish I had the link to...
an editorial today, I believe by Walter Cronkite, about DeLay, squatter, Cheney, and Rove calling 15 or 20 "disloyal" puke Congressmen who were going to vote against chimp's Medifraud bill - the "cornerstone of his legislative wish list". These cretins threatened to basically end any political futures of the REPUBLICAN Congressmen who they called, and most of them caved in and changed their votes of conscience to votes of coercion. I hurl...

15. Good questions
I, too, have been absolutely mystified as to how the Congressional Repubs can time and again cave in to this guy. Even more frightening, the White House has either caved to in or been told to go peddle their papers several times by DeLay.

There's something amiss here. I wish I knew what it was.

So everyone will fully understand how "special" he and his republican friends are.

9. How many protesters do you predict for Puke convention?
I'd think that the voices of 250,000 angry Americans - not just Dems - could carry the mile from their "free speech zone" pen to the fatcat PNAC bastards. If I lived within 500 miles of NYC I'd be warming up my vocal chords right now.

8. I thought this was
already poo-pooed as being impractical? I think I know what's behind Demented Delay's wanting the GOP to stay on this ship. He SMOKES! He cannot smoke anywhere in NY. He CAN smoke on the cruiseship. I'm sure he's not the only member of the republicans that smoke. I read an article about him smoking in a restaurant and the owner asked him to either go outside or put it out and a big argument/fight ensued. He likes his smokes. I'll bet you donuts to dollars THAT is what this is all about.

The ship....

Oh yea! That's secure. I can just see all of their security detail in scuba gear living in the water under the boat. :eyes: They would have to have air patrol along with land security. What a bunch of Chicken shit, Chickenhawks....they don't want to face the NYers that they have screwed with the lack of promised funds.

Demented Delay does "Dawn". :7

11. It's safe enough ...
There isn't enough water there to sink a ship that size and they'd
be able to swim to shore (like rats!) without any difficulty.
The access to the quay could be easily barricaded with those dinky
concrete wall sections so no suspicious vehicles could get close.
Helicopter cover would be on the agenda for a building too but this
way there would be less cover for any nasty "insurgents" to use.
A double layer of netting + sensors at the open end of the water and
you've got it all sewn up.

Now, if they'd only try taking them all offshore for a little sail
around, that could prove interesting :-)

16. You could be on to something....
What if it's not about DeLay's personal tobacco addiction, but maybe the tobacco industry (major GOP funders that they are) is really upset that "their" party is holding a convention in "hostile territory" (city with a smoking ban)

23. I've always wondered about the smoking angle
and how the Repugs chose NYC where smoking is banned. Another thought is that if they're all in one place, they can organize huge prayer meetings that might have been difficult if they were housed in different hotels. They'd be in paradise on the USS Minnow, assuming botulism doesn't set in.

14. Great Idea! This way they can use the tragedy of 9/11
as a photo op for their political purposes without actually having to mingle with the scuzzy surviving New Yorkers.

Yup, they are the party of the boy *Bush.

17. From a tactical POV, this is a good idea.
There is no way they will be able to do to protestors what they did in Miami during the FTAA.

The NeoCons may be evil, but they aren't stupid. With so many protestors at the gates, there will be no way to hide how they are alienating the common people.

On a cruise ship out at sea, they will be able to control the media more tightly.

21. haha....I was about to post the same thing!
They can use the "babbling brooks" as bidets!

I honestly believe the Rat Bastard is keeping his distance from what will surely be a massive protest/riot in the streets. Miami FTAA police were a warm up for NYC.
