Colorado's high court discards new congressional maps

DENVER -- In a decision that could have national implications, the Colorado Supreme Court threw out the state's new congressional districts today because the GOP-led Legislature redrew the maps in violation of the constitution.

The General Assembly is required to redraw the maps only after each census and before the ensuing general election -- not at any other time, the court said in a closely watched decision. A similar court battle is being waged in Texas.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the lawsuits in play in Texas will produce a similar ruling!

My apologies if this is a duplicate posting.

1. this is not the same as in Texas ;(
This is a dupe but still a good win.

From what I understand, the Colorado Constitution requires "only after each census and before the ensuing general election "

Sounds like somebody did not READ the Colorado Constitution.

2. sorry for the dupe, but how does that differ from Texas?
we have similar language requiring one redistricting based on information gained by census.

3. from other threads it sounds like
in Texas they are going after Federal Voting Rights problems. The Colorado constitution sounds like is REQUIRES a new map BEFORE a general election, and maybe Texas's contitution does not spell it out like that.
