The Economy May Well Be Picking Up…
Edited on Mon Dec-01-03 08:40 PM by The Lone Liberal

But the deficit will act as a sea anchor and drag it down before it gathers enough speed to keep from economically drowning a lot of people at the bottom and in the middle-class.

1. The deficit, smaller salaries, slashed benefits, attacks on overtime,
corrupted unions, continuing instability - yes, there are a few anchors that may drag an "improved economy" down.

6. My own Mantra-
I hope the economy improves enough that I get to keep MY job but not so much that bush gets to keep his.

2. Oh, I thought you meant numbnuts was going to start some kind of...
WPA or CCC so people could literally clean up, i.e., pick up garbage from cities and roadsides.

3. The deficit probably wont have too much of an impact
before the election. It is a long term problem, not something that will make or break a politician in the next 11 months.

4. The economy may be picking up for people who own stocks
but if the only job you can find won't pay the rent, the economy isn't picking up for you. I'm worried that the media will trumpet a great economy in order to prop up W, which will serve only to make the people who are already suffering feel worse, because their problems will be positioned as being their own fault instead of the economy's. Unemployment in a bad economy is bad, but in a good one? What on earth is that going to do to people psychologically and emotionally?
