DU'ers running for office in 2004?
I know there are a few - but please check in if you're running for office in 2004. From President to school board - dog catcher to Senator. Name it, claim it - and tell us about it. I learned in 2002 that DU was a great source of support during the campaign season.

Me? Yep, I'm giving it another try. I'll be a candidate for the NH House of Representatives. It pays $100 a year - why wouldn't I??? ;-)

1. Good luck!
If you have a Web site, post it (or PM me with it) and I'll add it to my blog.

My husband, Vince Whitacre (Whitacre D_WI here) is running for Congress from Wisconsin's fifth district (taking out Sensenbrenner).

2. Thanks, eyesroll
I don't have a website yet - but I'm thinking I should.
Good luck to Vince (and you!) - bless him for taking on Senselessbrenner.

3. Maine Mary actually is a State Representative in Maine!
I'd strongly suggest contacting her. She's won three races in a highly Republican district.

5. State Superintendent of Public Instruction - With an Anti-Bush Platform
I haven't officially declared my candidacy yet, but it's a strong possibility. I ran for that office in 2000 and for the Seattle School Board in 1999 and 2003.

I hope every DU candidate makes George Bush, Inc. a campaign issue. But I also hope people will make media whores a campaign issue. That means actually blasting the bastards on your campaign website and refusing to attend media endorsement interviews (unless there are media in your community that aren't corrupt).

A third issue that would be really cool is Microsoft versus Freedomware. Candidates should have their campaign websites hosted on Linux servers and mention that fact on their sites. They should try to include at least a brief statement about Microsoft - how it's bad for consumers, public education, national security and everything else - and help promte the gospel of "Freedomware" - open-source software. You don't have to use Linux on your computer in order to promote it. Moreover, Apple/Mac software is based on open-source.

13. What does the position entail?
Based on the incumbent's (Terry Bergeson) past record, the official job description apparently goes something like this:

Hide from the public and flunk every audit you can, coming out of hiding only when corporations need someone to say "YES" when they ask for more punishment for students and teachers.

Seriously, Terry Bergeson is every bit as invisible as Dick Cheney. When I ran against her four years ago, there wasn't ONE EDUCATION FORUM in Seattle. I only glimpsed her once, at some run of the mill school function. It was the first and last time I've ever seen her.

7. US House Of Representatives
...as a matter of fact, three federal candidates who are DUers will be having a fundraiser very very soon here.

Go for it! I've been in the race for a short period and it's already been the best experience!

21. great!
i worry about sticking my nose in sometimes, but...
you did ask for feedback. and, taking someone's ideas and helping to 'sharpen' them is much easier than starting from scratch.

if you need a banner or design for buttons, whatever... just let me know. (you'll be helping me launch a new business)

complete with scary commercials and a plan to annex a nearby town for "living space."

I'm thinking about it, as it would be prime parody material and the ensuing documentary could be interesting.
