Black Box Voting - Something's going to happen.
During the next 6 days, three things are going to break. I need volunteers to pick up the ball when each of the three things hits.

1) Computer people, again
2) Pound the pavement activists (phone calls, emails and letters)
3) Researchers and fact checkers

These are three separate projects which will be broken by three separate activists within a seven-day time frame. It's hard to tip over an elephant, but if it ain't at least off-balance after we get done this month, I will eat MY shoe.

What to do: Register for Activism Forum at http://www.blackboxvoting.org and sign in under your state or country. Be patient with me as I am juggling a lot of plates this week and am slow to respond to queries. If you have an immediate need for assistance, send to RedEagle or JohnGideon.

Post in the talent pool. This one hits four companies.

However, after reading the Krugman piece on BBV- I think it'll be something else.

And it looks like Krugman is planning more columns!

I can't remember the last time I've used this many

45. Bev, congratulations! I assume you've been working with Krugman on this?
I wrote him about your findings on Nov 10,
and I'm sure others have been writing him too.
Some here have confirmed that they did.
But I assume my letter was only a small part of the critical mass,
and you were a big part.

Krugman is absolutely the *best* person, in my wildest dreams,
to report this. No one has more credibility or visibility.
He's at the biggest newspaper.
And he stands out at that paper 'cause he's so excellent,
but their undeserved prestige is a fact we're currently stuck with.
Even though I wrote to Ellis Henican about it at
the same time (and Ellis is normally so responsive to his
readers, but he ignored me this time), I was so hoping that Krugman
would pick it up.

I wrote to him again tonight to thank him and...ask some
more questions. It appears he's doing a series on Diebold.
How effin fantastic is that?

Thank you gawd for Paul Krugman. And Bev Harris. And DU...

I think BushInc. will try to ruin them both somehow, just as they have tried with everyone who has investigated one of their covert ventures.

I hope the two of you have availed yourselves of good security measures. You always have a place to run to if necessary.

5. Bev, I'm Canadian
But I do my part getting the message out up here about the attempted vote fixing being run by Repug sympathizers.

Canadians can't believe that there's no paper ballot. As one old guy told me, "It sure would be easy to fix an election otherwise."

Out of the mouths of old men...

I worry that if it can't be stopped in the US, the next push will be to try it in Canada using the same faux arguments of speed and convenience. I do the same as you, try from north of the border to share information via every avenue I have.

There is a section for Canadians in the Black Box Voting Activism Forum so register and start the conversation going.

And just this weekend I pulled an article on Diebold voting machine purchases in about six cities in Canada a few years back.

Cheerio.

21. The three activists are:
Edited on Mon Dec-01-03 11:33 PM by BevHarris
The biggest blabbermouths you can imagine, (where's that duct tape when you need it?) Jim March (smack)Andy and (put a bandanna on this big mouth) Me.

The jugglers of the volunteers are:
RedEagle
JohnGideon

The projects are:

1) Jim March has some officially obtained files, which will probably post sometime tomorrow, that may have much to tell us. The faster we analyze them the better.

2) Andy is up to his arse in alligators and we need public help on his project TONIGHT (if we can dash out of the gate with the rest of this I may call a press conference as early as Wednesday or Thursday)
What we need for now, and for reasons we cannot say what it is quite yet, is this:
- Go to any state forum, but especially -- what were they, Andy? Maryland, Alabama, Wyoming, help me out, big guy, post the rest here -- and enter the following information: For any county with ANY BRAND of optical scan or touch-screen, get the contact name and the phone number and post it in the state forum with the county name. If you can find it, get the type of voting machine and/or company or brand.

3) My project is in a private forum, scroll way down and if you can see it, you're in. It is for anal-retentive people and people who have access to any of the following for research: Lexis-Nexis, Factiva, SEDAR, a public library in Vancouver Canada, or to coin a phrase from ParanoidPat's brother, "massive parallel browsing" capabilities. This is an assignment to meticulously fact-check Chapter 6 (almost all new) which will be posted in that private forum in the wee hours of this morning. No blabbermouths allowed. If you can help with this and don't see the forum, contact RedEagle or JohnGideon with your particulars and see if they'll open the door a bit wider.

Electronic Voting Firm Drops Legal Case

SAN JOSE, Calif. - In a major victory for free speech enthusiasts on the Internet, Diebold Inc. has agreed not to sue voting rights advocates who publish leaked documents about the alleged security breaches of electronic voting.

A Diebold spokesman promised in a conference call Monday with U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel and attorneys from the Electronic Frontier Foundation that it would not sue dozens of students, computer scientists and ISP operators who received cease-and-desist letters from August to October.

Diebold also promised not to file lawsuits against two Swarthmore College students and a San Francisco-based Internet service provider for copyright infringement, according to a motion that company attorneys filed Nov. 24 in San Jose's federal court.

Diebold did not disclose specifics on why it had dropped its legal case, but the decision is a major reversal of the company's previous strategy. North Canton, Ohio-based Diebold, which controls more than 50,000 touch-screen voting machines nationwide, had threatened legal action against dozens of individuals who refused to remove links to its stolen data.

61. thanks to Bev and all the BBV Activists
It's been tough of late - watching the TV news propaganda, reading lies in the newspaper and wondering why so many important stories are not being examined by the press. It's natural to feel pessimistic about our future and the state of our democracy. Meanwhile, the entrenched and corrupt powers that be appear to consolidating their power. It's easy to get discouraged and become cynical.

At the darkest moment, the blinding light of truth comes shining through. Whenever I read the BBV threads and see the grassroots work of good people, modern day minutemen and women, people like Bev and the BBV activisits, I feel hope.

Thank you. You are making a difference in so many ways!
