Edited on Mon Dec-01-03 10:52 PM by TruthIsAll
DUers, have you heard anyone else mention Diebold?

Kerry? Clark? Dean? Gephardt? Braun? Sharpton? And not a peep from the DINO of all DINOS, who but for Repug Florida/Scotus fraud would be our VP today - Holy Joe? You would expect something from him, no?

Jeez, the repugs stole it in 2000 and 2002. In broad daylight. All the Dems should be shouting Howard Beale's: "We're mad as hell, and we're not going to take it anymore".

But they're not. Except for Dennis, that is. And thanks to Dennis, we've just won a pretty big battle. But we must still win the war.

Hey, Kerry. I hear you're pissed about the Patriot act. Now let's hear you diss Diebold. Express your passion. It's good for you. Very liberating. May even bring up your poll numbers. Either that, or fall by the wayside as Dean and Clark battle it out.

Say it LOUD. I'm LIBERAL and I'm PROUD!

Diebold Withdraws Legal Threats

WASHINGTON - November 28 - Diebold Inc., one of the nation's largest electronic voting machine manufacturers, is withdrawing more than a dozen legal threats against ISPs for hosting users who publish or link to corporate documents suggesting there are flaws in its equipment and irregularities with certifying the systems for elections. Nor will it issue additional cease-and-desist notices concerning these corporate documents, US District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel heard today. Diebold has until this point waged an intimidation campaign to repress circulation of employee e-mails that raise concerns about the security of its electronic voting machines.

This move came after widespread public protest. Congressman Dennis Kucinich sent a letter to Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Sensenbrenner and Ranking Member Conyers requesting that the Committee hold a hearing to investigate abuses of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) by Diebold. Kucinich also posted the documents in question on his congressional website.

Today, Kucinich released this statement:

"In a democracy where already half the people don't vote and where the last presidential election was decided by the Supreme Court, we cannot tolerate flawed voting equipment or intimidation of those who point out the flaws. Diebold backing down from its intimidation campaign is a positive step. An open and honest examination of the flaws in electronic voting will lead us to only one possible conclusion: electronic voting machines are dangerous to democracy because there is no way of ensuring their accuracy. We need to have a voter-verified paper trial for every election so that any errors and irregularities caused by the voting machines can be discovered."

3. Without corporate money!
No high roller repug dollars for DK, he's relying on the people to make his campaign work. What a sh*tty morning some folks are going to wake up to after Iowa.

6. We're going to Iowa every weekend
The Minnesota campaign is sending volunteers to Iowa every weekend, and we're getting a lot of positive feedback. We've been doing phone calling for the last month or two, and the race is still wide open-- the candidate with the largest lead in our calls has been "undecided", by a wide margin (70%).

There's STILL a lot of room in this race, especially considering that approx 90% of Americans can not even identify ONE of the nine Democratic candidates.

This thing will go down to the convention this year-- don't expect things to be done until California at the earliest.

isn't my idea of government for the people, by the people, and of the people. Thanks for the post. Yet again Kucinich is way ahead of the pack. Maybe someday the media will grow some and cover him.

The issue is front and center on his website, and apparently
is a major focus of his.

I wonder if it's even mentioned on any other candidate's site.

Thank you Rep. Kucinich!

10. funds
after the first few primaries and caucses (sp) i expect two or three democratic candidates to drop out due to lack of funds. most likely Mosely-Braun, Sharpton and unfortunately DK.

unless money starts to roll in, it will make it very hard to buy ads to get message out.

Not as much or as in-depth as I would have liked, but he most certainly has. It IS on his radar screen.

But it was most excellent that Dennis did what he did.

of electronic voting machines all over the country, will assure keeping Bush & Co in power. (republicans own and control the voting machines software.)

Thank you Mr. Kucinich...we need you to speak the truth during the primaries...even if you are being ignored by the corporate republican owned media and the democrats (as well)...you must be heard, simply, at the very least, for debate and to keep the democratic liberal progressive ideas alive.

Kucinich is not going to hurt Dean, Clark, Kerry, etc...his dialogue can only help them and the democratic party, exposing Bush to what needs to be exposed.

Please send Dennis Kucinich a buck or two, it's necessary for all of us in the democratic party and our country.

21. Another Kick for Kucinich -- if you like what he did

about Diebold, send him some money! The race will be all the poorer if the most honest, most progressive candidates have to drop out.

Myra posted this above & it bears repeating:

“Where we put our money represents what we value most in this world.
Let us invest ourselves in peace, justice, and freedom.”

23. How can anyone disagree with Kucinich's ideas?
Just listen to what he speaks.

Kucinich truly has mainstream ideas...ideas that have gotten lost in this right wing fascist ideology we live under, that the media forces down your throat each day by design.

Take the time to see why this under-funded progressive has the media and republicans trying to ignore and shut him up.

Just check it out...very mainstream, old democratic ideals, that truly has made this coutry great and socially progressive and what the republicans want to regress upon...because it might hurt their un-godly profits.

24. Little known fact about the 2000 election
(just posted this in another thread and saw this perfect opening)

"DELAND, Fla., Nov. 11 - Something very strange happened on election night to Deborah Tannenbaum, a Democratic Party official in Volusia County. At 10 p.m., she called the county elections department and learned that Al Gore was leading George W. Bush 83,000 votes to 62,000. But when she checked the county's Web site for an update half an hour later, she found a startling development: Gore's count had dropped by 16,000 votes, while an obscure Socialist candidate had picked up 10,000--all because of a single precinct with only 600 voters."
- Washington Post Sunday , November 12, 2000 ; Page A22

<snip>

"…. faulty 'memory cards' in the machines caused the 16,000-vote disappearance on election night. The glitch was soon fixed," he wrote.

But thanks to recent investigations into Black Box Voting by Washington State writer Bev Harris we now know this explanation is not correct. In fact it is not even in the ballpark.

According to recently discovered internal Diebold Election Systems memos, Global Election Systems' (which was later purchased by Diebold) own technical staff were also stumped by the events in Volusia County/

In Chapter 11 of her new book "Black Box Voting In the 21st Century" released early today in .PDF format at Blackboxvoting.com and here at Scoop Ms Harris observes.

"If you strip away the partisan rancor over the 2000 election, you are left with the undeniable fact that a presidential candidate conceded the election to his opponent based on a second card that mysteriously appears, subtracts 16,022 votes, then just as mysteriously disappears."
