Herding Cats
The Republicans always say this about the Dems. They claim that we can never agree on anything, that we are undisciplined and sectarian. Then they sit back and laugh at us, while we eat our own and lose another election.

Is anyone here getting sick of making the Republicans look like they have us figured out?

Would you rather like to make a Repuke look like a stupid, rabid, hypocritical sack of elephant shit? Me Too! See, we have something in common!

Here's how to build those piles of elephant shit - Say good things about YOUR favored Dem candidate. When other people say bad things about your candidate, wish them luck in the primaries, and let the voters decide. Regardless of other Dems, who may not be as quick as you, learn this mantra, and repeat it daily: "Speak No Evil Of Other Dems."

Dont throw gas on the flames of candidate bashing, no matter how tempting. It only makes Republicans smirk, and I have had all I can stomach of republicans that smirk--how about you?

Come general election time, support whomever the Dem candidate is, regardless of how you feel about that candidate's followers, because no matter who that Dem candidate is, I can promiss you this...

It wont be GW Bush. Get it?

1. The hell I'll let this sink without a single reply.
C'mon.

Hate it.
Like it.
Just don't ignore it, it's too depressing. ;)

3. I prefer herding ferrets, although I do have a lot of cats around.
Agree with your thesis, by the way...at least the part about party unity when the chips are down. It's just that when you get a lot of 'free-thinkers' and intelectuals of various stripes together, under one tent, you DO tend to get varying points of view, and varying choices as to who the champions of said points of view should be.

But yeah, come 2004, we better pull together, or get ready to suck on 4 more big ones with the shrub......eeeeeyyyeeeewwwwwwwww.

5. Rather be herded around like a cat than a sheep.
Because thats what the Repubs are like - sheep. Nothing wrong with being nonconformist and thinking for one's self as opposed to just "going along with the group".

14. Nonconformists?
What exactly is wrong with conforming to a standard of getting along with each other long enough to damage the opposition?

Like never before, we are in a serious civil cold war.

The prize is democratic freedoms.

If we lose, we may find that there is no place in America for noncomformists, and thinking for one's self may become more difficult to do if BushCo builds on the Patriot Act.

I don't mean to sound paranoid, but the concept that "It Can't Happen Hear" is delusional. "It" being the loss of your Constitutional rights. "It" can happen here, it IS happening here as we speak, and it is up to us cats to stop it.

6. We have free will and actually use it
but the only way Republicans can win is to herd the sheep. When we decide together to join up ,even if it's not exactly what we want, they will be a footnote in history.

8. 10/4 Eleanor
Why some want to bash our friends and let the bad guys carry on leaves me baffled. United, we stand free. Divided, we will die under the jackboots of fascists and slave owners. I'm counting on you people to stay standing free. Please, don't let me down.

11. "I don't belong to an organized political party. I'm a Democrat."
That was a famous joke by Will Rogers back in the 1930's. Yeah, it is like herding cats. Learn some good jokes on the subject and enjoy it. It's our strength, even if it is also our weakness too.

Yes, it does mean that the Reps can use wedge issues on us and we can rarely do it to them. But it also means that we survive the wedge and come back for another fight.

But I'm sure even this very common sense post will get some flames. People here just like to bitch. It doesn't really matter to them what they bitch about.

that one came from Jim Hightower.

I totally agree with you. Why should our candidate go into the election nearly destroyed by the Democrats.

Some say that Bush winning another term will not be the end of the world but it will be the end for some of our citizens. It is our duty to keep it together.
