Many times she has promised to finish her stay as senator from N.Y. For her politicial future if not for any other reason ,it would be a very bad move on her part .I believe the Clintons have a feeling that bush may win in 04 .That 2008 is perhaps her time ,not 2004 ! If Clark ,wins which I hope very much he does .I dont think Hilary would have any problem being his V.P. in 2008 and then our frist female President in 2012 !

Put her name after any of the current candidates and the ticket looks mighty. I think it's less likely that Clark would choose her than Dean, but any candidate would have to at least seriously consider her and I'll bet she'd be high on the list of any of the current top-tier candidates.

I think Hillary is aiming for a run in 2008, in case Bush wins re-election.

I don't see her going for anything but the top of the ticket.

6. What bothers me...

is that she and Bill are two of the sharpest political minds in existence and they do not want her in the mix this election cycle. Are they writing off 2004 as a lost cause?

8. I don't think that 2004 has been written off.....

but She has to be drafted at the convention. She stated on numerous occasions that she was not running. The only way that she could run is if she was chosen at a brokered convention.

Anyone who is actually paying attention knows that the real battle in 2004 is likely to be Dean vs McAulliffe (who is a stand-in for the Clintons). If Dean purges McAulliffe and his crew from the DNC (which seems likely), it's going to be fascinating to watch how the Clintons react.

Dean has his own donors, but the Senate, House, Gubenatorial candidates do not and still largely rely on the Clinton Money Machine. To me, this is where the real McGovern comparisons to Dean exist. Not in his issues but in his relationship to the Party.

You put forth a possible scenerio, one that assumes the worst of politics -- that there is nothing above consolidation of power. Even keeping that underlying assumption however, one can make the case that the DNC and Dean gain more than they lose by merging forces. If it's about egos, your sceneario is probable. If it's about building an effective base of power, a Dean/Clinton ticket is a real possibility.

18. It's not egos; it's money

The Clinton/DLC Machine is reliant on donations from corporations. Dean is reliant on cash from individual donors. The goals of the two constituencies are not exactly conducive to partnership.

The reason it is similar to 1972 is that the Humphrey/Daley wing decided that they individually had more to lose if McGovern won than if Nixon won. McAuliffe knows that if Dean wins, his time running the DNC is over. And if he is out, the Clintons are out.

If you can envision a scenario where all parties can survive, I would like to hear it.

10. I wish we ould stop speculating about Hilary

--it just gives fodder to the GOP. I like the Clinton's but if we are serious we would realize at this point and time Hilary is such a lightning rod to stimulate activities in GOP Base. The more we keep bringing her up--the longer it will take for her to rid herself of baggage so she can run and win in the future. Sure she can win a primary but she cannot win nationally. She needs time to convince Americans who are not Dem. Party Loyalists that she can be trusted.

in 2004 because she can then SERIOUSLY support the ticket THIS time.

If the Dems win in 2004 (and she is not on the ticket) she is possibly locked out until 2020 if we have 4 successful WH victories. (Of course that would be argued as very unlikley and I agree)

So I continue to like the ****/Clinton ticket possibility. However,a pairing of HC with Dean is very unlikely. With Clark? Yes much more likely.
