In Florida: Clark calls Lieberman a spoiler!
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 01:29 PM by Kahuna
My commentary on the piece. It's about time someone called Lieberman what he is. A spoiler doing the GOP's dirty work. Keep up the good work!

Clark stumps for Jewish votes in visit to Lieberman country
BY PETER WALLSTEN
pwallsten@herald.com

DELRAY BEACH - Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman may have been the sentimental favorite in South Florida after a few thousand butterfly ballots prevented him from becoming vice president in 2000, but he wasn't the presidential candidate drawing a standing-room-only crowd in a synagogue here Monday.

...a woman stood up to ask how he can rid the field of the ''spoilers'' who stand between him and the nomination.

''I think she's talking about Sen. Lieberman,'' Clark boomed into the microphone at Temple Emeth

:bounce: Go, Clark, Go! :yourock:

1. Clark is campaigning well
I think we will start seeing polling evidence over the next couple weeks.

2. Lieberman has been doing this for some time now
In every debate there has been. Lieberman has taken, out of the blue shots at Clark. After he was turned down for the Iowa debate, he blamed Clark for it.

The guy is a worm. I personally have called his office a couple of times to say what was needed. I suggest others do the same.

4. Joe's "Religious War" Statement Was The Last Straw
I didn't begrudge Joe's shots at Clark during the debate cause Politics is Politics... in the end it helps season Clark.

However, the Religious War statements and his romp on Fox last week removed any incentive I had to occassionally stand up for his record.

Some DU pointed out that although Joe's record is pretty good on Liberal issues his rhetoric lately has been beyond grating.

5. There are five spoilers at least
Lieberman, Edwards, Kucinich, Sharpton, and Moseley-Braun have no practical chance to win the nomination. They are merely drawing attention and resources from the real contenders.

I am not saying any of them should withdraw, but neither should their candidacies be viewed as anything other than what they are: "also-rans."

6. Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute
I think the term "spoiler" is vague, or even misused here.

Even though the woman and General Clark used the term "spoiler,"
I feel like a more appropriate term is "ringer."
"A contestant entered dishonestly into a competition."
And that's Lieberman is thru and thru, 'cause he's a Pug
in Dem drag. So he's there (like Zell Miller) to strategically
syphon support/votes from real Dems.

That's different from a spoiler, who may well be a sincere
candidate and a legit Dem or legit Green or whatever.
And IMO Edwards, Kucinich, Sharpton, and Moseley-Braun
do NOT fall into the ringer category.
I strongly feel that they should stay in the race as
long as they want and as long as they're able.
I want their voices there.

Hell, Kucinich is the only candidate going after Diebold.
Diebold is the most important issue in the campaign.
If they steal all the Dem votes there's no point in any Dems
campaigning.

(Someone said in another thread that Dean had mentioned
Diebold; but they didn't back it up with a thread or any evidence.
I'd love it if it were true though.)

7. Good for Clark!
I'm gonna watch Lieberman on C-Span at 7:15 tonight at a Town Hall meeting in NH. I want to see if anyone boos him.

Clark will be on C-Span tomorrow 12/3 at 7:45 for a Town Hall meeting. I will watch that with glee. (Times on C-Span are sometimes subject to change).

9. Great comeback on that question!
He's a fast thinker and holy moly, he's 100 times better than Lieberman. Standing-room-only, eh? Must have been a 6 x 9 room. <sarcasm> We all know how poorly he's doing, right? The media and Dean supporters say so. It must be true. :eyes:

Go, General! :bounce:

10. Joe has a tax chart w/pix of Dean, Kerry, Gep and himself. NO Clark.
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 08:29 PM by oasis
maybe a vengeful Joe is thinking of payback for being left out of the debate.

He's on C-SPAN right now speaking to a packed crowd of thirty. I guess they came for the free cookies and punch.
