SoCal DUers: Don't Shop at Ralph's
Even though the picket lines went down last month, they are still in limbo re: collective bargaining. And now this latest development...

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-super2dec02,1,3486061.story?coll=la-headlines-business

California Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer said Monday that he would investigate whether supermarket companies violated antitrust laws by agreeing to share profits and losses during the grocery workers' strike.

...

According to Wall Street analysts who follow the companies closely, the agreement says that if one of the three reaps added business during the strike, it will share some of that money.

...

The mutual aid pact took on significance with the Oct. 31 decision by the UFCW to pull its pickets from Ralphs stores to focus pressure on the other two chains.

That has led to a sharp pickup in business for Ralphs — which presumably is sharing the bounty with Safeway and Albertsons.

1. We had a lengthy grocery strike in Seattle in '89
The way the grocers (Albertsons, Safeway in particular) treated the workers really turned me against those stores, and I've only rarely patronized them since.

There is such a shortage of decent-paying jobs around (despite what the RW talking heads are barking at us) that it is shameful how these corporations have treated their employees.

2. Good thing I've got a Whole Foods nearby!

I've been completely turned off to the big chains since this started. I've learned to shop at Whole Foods, Wild Oats and the Co-op in SM. Who needs Vons or Ralphs anyway? Not me!

4. I don't
I don't think I even know where one is. All the better.
