Recent events have made me worried. Yeah, he organized this photo op with the army and now he has gotten more popular again. Will this continue, or was this just a blip?

On another note, why is everybody so happy about the economy when unemployment is still on the rise???

1. It'll blip and go back to its downward spiral
just in time for Election of '04 where *'s popularity would be hovering in the low teens to single digits..

3. Continue? Why would it continue?
You mean next week he'll be more popular than he is now? Let me ask my cat... She says no, he won't be more popular next week than now. And she's not even a particularly smart cat.

18. My cat's a slut. She asked if he'd pet her and give her treaties.
She approves if yes.

Seriously, though, I keep looking at the raw data and saying "They're asking the wrong questions."

It's not do you approve of him, it's How well do you think he's doing. Grade him.

I think if people were given the choice of saying he's getting a D- instead of a Pass Fail rating, we'd see that he's pulling grades lower than he made at Harvard.

6. But isn't it discouraging if that's all it takes??
One photo-op, zero substance. How depressing that people base their judgments on that.

5. Blip. Also, that poll was 6 points higher than any media poll previously.
At best he will be at 54% approval over that and it will go down.

8. Blankety Blip!!
The "Resident Evil's" entire residency has been a blankety blip! His Baghdad Bu$h*t was performed in fear of President H. Clinton's noteriety that she gained by her visit's to Afganistan, and Iraq.
They fear Ms. Clinton, we have to draft her!

13. I doubt that it was a sudden response to Hillary.
This was supposed to have been planned since sometime in October. Considering the amount of work that would have to go into it, that is likely true.

12. it is incredible
a staged event like that--so shallow and so full of crap, is actually believed and admired by people. They have got to be dumb. That is all I can figure out in order to try to understand why this idiot gets a bump in the polls. I hope, really hope, there is something not quite right about this poll and that it somehow gets debunked.

because, he will pull a similar, spectacular, mystical stunt right around election time.

It is a sad state of affairs when this country has a clown for a president. One whose job is to play act, make public appearances to bring in millions of dollars to his campaign, one whose, otherwise vapid wife, is equally an actor--this is our country-weep for it. It consists of-the stage-the president who is an actor, the first lady who is a zombied and also an actor-and a multitude of stage props to make it all seem as tough it is real, and we, we the people, willing suspend our disbelief even though we see plainly that the actor is consummate liar without concern for ethics or morals.

to a mesmerized pack of weak-willed fools who'd sell out their own country for a good show.

Hell, he'd have ashroft rappin' "Bad Boys" if he thought he'd raise a buck or steal a vote.

16. Just a bounce unless unemployment starts going down significantly.
Which is not very likely considering that, since the 1920's, republican presidents have always been bad for job creation. Plus, there are several other factors which will make it difficult for unemployment to decline significantly. These include rising productivity, increasing globalization, increasing foreign outsourcing, growing merger and acquisition activity leading to job cuts, and excess capacity in many industries. On top of all that, "discouraged workers" will re-enter the labor market if the economy holds up next year.

19. Reaganesque
It was said of Ronald Reagan that he always agreed with the last person who was in the room. I think there are a lot of people who, when asked about Bush, only respond about the very last thing they saw or heard about him.

You know, like "it was very nice of him to fly all the way down to Central America to give all those soldiers nice turkey!"

20. blip
I think we'll wait until the post-holiday hangover kicks in. The rosy economic numbers will subside.

I saw a NYT headline today about manufacturing being at a 20 year high, and that hiring is up. This kind of rosy crap popped up in late 1991, as a boost to Bush Sr. But as long as the people do not perceive there is a recovery, there isn't one, no matter what the news and percentages say.

Still, Iraq continues to press on with daily horrors. Let it be his achilles heel.

21. How can the economy be good
when unemployment is so high? It can't happen. The government is lying to us again. The more people out of work, the fewer goods and services can be sold. It's a vicious cycle. The government paid economists are telling huge whoppers.

25. Two questions:
1. Who went back to work? I heard that unemployment still increased.

2. Even if people are, they have no doubt been out of work for a long time in some cases. This should sway people.
