to our troops. This Administration's blackout on war dead/funeral photo ops is something that will haunt them.

1. Bush is more concern with protecting his agenda, than to honor our dead
soldiers.

3. will it haunt them?
I hope so. But I get the sense a great number of Americans are quite content to remain asleep, and get most riled at the ones trying to wake them.

4. Covered on BBCAmerica last night
Unfortunately, I had the TV on mute while on the phone, but saw King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia (clearly tearing up), and Prince Felipe, along with Aznar and cabinet ministers. Googled for more information and saw several photos of Juan Carlos and Felipe embracing family members. Spanish papers describe it as a state funeral restricted to family members and invited guests but broadcast live on national television.

7. Hey, he stymied a military coup
when people thought he would turn out to be Franco's poodle -- I like him, too! Helped turn Spain into a democracy when that possibility wasn't a certainty. And the Spanish royals are pretty low-key as royals -- not as much as the Scandinavians, but a lot better than the British.

6. Same kind of state funeral in Italy for their nineteen...
killed a few weeks ago. National day of mourning, moment of silence observed throughout the country -- and even Berlusconi, unlike GWB, walking with nineteen families behind nineteen flag-draped coffins.
