24. This should be HUGE news...just think if it had been a Dem...
can we say jail?

Why isn't FOX reporting on this? I have to stop and run to the toilet to puke...the "peace celebration is playing in the background" Bush is speaking now and it is making me sick.

Is it too much to hope that this story gets traction and some people go to jail? :eyes:

BTW, loved the last bit about global warming..."ait that tastes like the muffler on a 67 Mustang"...snort. :-)

3. Yet another actual, bona fide
violation of the law by the GOP. Not even subtle. Will any of this get punished? And Novak is always the link to this. I think the question we all have on our minds is, if Michael Jackson were a member of the Bush administration, would we hear anything about him?

4. Once again, this seems to be
the most crucially, vitally important story, the most easily actionable, and it is somewhat ignored. I don't get it. Not that I don't think other issues aren't worthy, but here is something damning, violating the law, that could hurt the GOP establishment. We should be all over this one.

Who Tried To Bribe Rep. Smith?
Stop Protecting Him, Congressman.
By Timothy Noah
Slate
Monday 01 December 2003

Rep. Nick Smith, R-Mich., says that sometime late Nov. 21 or early in the morning Nov. 22, somebody on the House floor threatened to redirect campaign funds away from his son Brad, who is running to succeed him, if he didn't support the Medicare prescription bill. This according to the Associated Press. Robert Novak further reports,

On the House floor, Nick Smith was told business interests would give his son $100,000 in return for his father's vote. When he still declined, fellow Republican House members told him they would make sure Brad Smith never came to Congress. After Nick Smith voted no and the bill passed, Duke Cunningham of California and other Republicans taunted him that his son was dead meat.

Speaking through Chief of Staff Kurt Schmautz, Smith assured Chatterbox that Novak's account is "basically accurate." That means Smith was an eyewitness to a federal crime. United States Code, Title 18, Section 201, "Bribery of public officials and witnesses," states that under federal law, a person commits bribery if he

directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official or person who has been selected to be a public official, or offers or promises any public official or any person who has been selected to be a public official to give anything of value to any other person or entity , with intent to influence any official act. …

Question: Why is NOVAK reporting this?

It was briefly on CNN one day. I was glad to see Truthout doing this, and I shared it with some neighbors.

9. I included that last week in a LTTE....wonder why they have not printed it
Just kidding. I wrote one of the reporters tonight with the news about Scully leaving to help out all the companies he already helped out. I told them I knew they were getting letters from seniors about medicare, and they were not printing them.

This one reporter is a good guy, and our paper is pretty moderate....but they are not printing the letters I know they are getting.

Maybe they will print it yet. They printed my last one on Medicare.
