Clark Calls Bush's Challenge to Enemy "Fatuous"
"You don't make policy by taunting the enemy,'' said Clark, a retired Army general who was wounded during the Vietnam War. Bush was a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard during the conflict but never flew in battle. "Only someone who hasn't seen war firsthand would ever say anything as fatuous as 'bring 'em on.'''

6. Clark may have trouble
connecting to some voters if he continues to use "big" words like this. There was a thread earlier today about another situation where he used another unique word.

I do like Clark a lot, but you do have to be careful not to alienate people in this regard. This may seem like a ridiculous criticism, and I'm sure I'll take my lumps, but less sophisticated voters can be turned off by language they don't understand. Feeds the whole "elite liberal snob" stereotype the right likes to push.

My two cents.

9. I Don't Agree With That
I really don't agree with that. In the first place I have a little more respect for the common Bud-slurper and suspect that its a lot more important to people to understand the message, even if a few of the words are lost on them than it is to drop the level of the conversation to the lowest common mind. As long as the story line is straight, short, and direct I think a few zingers tossed in just show the man's intelligence. That and the subliminal flash of stars on the shoulders are the sort of thing that the NASCAR set respects. Trust me, if the local redneck is given a choice between a guy who has history and is a straight shooter who is clearly smart and a guy that sounds like Uncle Bill after a snootfull and isn't a bit smarter than that kid down at the tire shop, well, I think they'll take the General every time.

12. I appreciate your point
and I think that is true of many - but I also know a few who don't appreciate "fancy talkers". There is a reason shrub does so well in this regard. It could be the whole point is moot - as you may never be able to win over some of these voters anyway.

Again, just my two cents.

15. I like intelligent nominees with good vocabularies
who are not afraid to use them. I am not a Clark supporter in the least. But I respect his intelligence and I agree with his statement. And "fatuous" is hardly a "unique" word. It actually shows me that he may not be as adviser and poll driven as I have claimed. (Please do not think I will start endorsing the man.)

Clark is a military man and responds and thinks like a military man. And we've had 3 years of the Pentagon calling the shots and the Secretary of State standing in the shadows and it has produced chaos and aggression. The last thing this country needs is a stronger military presence in Washington

20. Agreed entirely...
which is why I'm supporting Clark.

It's the chickenhawks running things now that have caused these problems, NOT the military people.

Read the other thread here about Clark's 10 Promises regarding the military. It's the opposite of what we're experiencing now.

The fact that he's military doesn't make him militaristic.

BUSH: "Clark called me fat!?!?!"

CHENEY: "I think fatuous, like flatulence, means farting, George"

BUSH: "That's crazy! I never fart in public! That's just rude! If I'm in public and have to fart I'll hold it in no matter what!"

CHENEY: "That's right, George. A gentleman in public would hold a fart in so hard..."

BUSH: "... so hard it explodes out of his mouth!"

CHENEY: "Exactly"

45. I have said from almost day one...
that I would support the candidate who stands up to Bush.

Clark & Dean seem to be the only ones who make jsut the right comments, for me at least...

I like Edwards too-

So far, my impression grows that Clark is the one who will fight Bush and fight the media- he seems off to a good start.

He is the 1st candidate to call Bush to the floor on this particular media myth- that "Bush served".

Why didnt Kerry's advisors come up w/ somthing like this?

Jim Lehrer: Why don't you ask your opponent?

Clark: Delusional.

Bush: I... de... de... What does that mean Jim?

---Fade out---

44. The word "fatuous"
This is a definition form Dictionary.com (I am too lazy to look in a real book right now):

"Vacuously, smugly, and unconsciously foolish."

The word fits the situation and the person to a T.
