About Sharpton's SNL appearance. Important.
Equal time rules apply.

Saw this on CNN. CNN said this could be a Big air time opportunity for the Dems.

Local stations that run the show, must give equal time to other candidates. NBC is providing an "alternative program" for stations that don't believe in fairness.

1. Equal time only applies to networks
not cable channels.

2. SNL Is Entertainment, Not News...No Fairness Required
This is the same worm that provides safe haven for OxyRush and O'Really...and the one they cite why they shouldn't be held accountable or present a dissenting opinion on their programs..."we are "Entertainers"...and this is an "Entertainment" or "Commentary" Program.

Under FCC rules, since SNL is produced by an Broadway Video...a subsidary of NBC ENTERTAINMENT, it's not the same as being produced by NBC NEWS, thus isn't political whatsoever.

Plus, there is no fairness doctrine, folks...the GOOPS killed that in the Raygun days. Broadcasters are not obligated to provide any equal time in any form any way any how...again, the reasons why hate radio goes unchallenged.

The only action one can take is to place a letter of complaint on file with the FCC and in the station's public inspection file, that is supposed to be taken into consideration when the station's license is up for renewal. I have never heard of a station, especially one owned by a large corporation losing a license for equal time...and that was in the days when the FCC actually was an independent agency.

I'm looking forward to Rev. Al cranking it up...hopefully connecting with the young audience the show attracts that will get them politically active and ready to buck the trend and vote next year. A lot of kids are getting very angry and worried at this regime and a fun and friendly face for our causes is very welcome at this time...even if the rest of the show and the writing sucks.

5. Howard Stern is considered a news show.
They fought for this with the FCC and won.

6. If this is true. . .
. . .then the Democrats owe Al Sharpton and SNL a debt of gratitude. Clark is my guy but I look forward to the episode that Kucinich will be hosting.

7. McCain
Did SNL last year and we Dems didn't go nuts. Gee, republicans don't get funny/satire. Too bad Dennis Miller didn't think of that before he decided to switch over to people who can't laugh.

9. There is no such thing as 'equal time' rules...
- The closest thing that came to 'equal time' was the Fairness Doctine...which Reagan eliminated in the 80s.

14. If the Fairness Doctrine were reimplemented,
Fox News would simply have to close down shop. I'd love to see that happen.

This little bit of coercion by the FCC on local outlets not to air this Sharpton SNL episode is unprecedented. I'd imagine- given the absolute dishonesty and corruption of this administration- that there will be an effort to require those affiliates in the states in which Sharpton has qualified as a candidate to give Bush 1:30 of free campaign air time, also.

13. Does equal time apply in the primaries?
Do we even KNOW how many people are running for the Democratic nomination, throughout the country?

16. Our local NBC affilliate just announced it won't be shown (KJRH Tulsa)
some goofy FCC rule. :grr:
I can get it from another state though on satellite...but very few
other Okies will be able to.

when they booked him. They are the GE Network afterall, home of Timmy and Tweety, two of the most "balanced journalists" working today. :eyes:

I want my Al TV! :freak:

edit: I noticed on the promos for the show as soon as Al announces his appearance there's a quick cut to special guest Tracy Morgan who's seen portraying Sharpton.......curious.
