Susan Estrich eats humble pie. . .apologizes to Laurie David
Edited on Fri Dec-05-03 03:19 PM by Skinner
From Lloyd Grove's column in the NY Daily News. It appears Susan had to admit she may have gotten her facts wrong.

Don't ya hate to be wrong

In the venerable tradition of Emily Litella, Susan Estrich said, "Never mind!" yesterday when challenged on the premise of her latest syndicated column - an impassioned attack on Hollywood liberal Laurie David for allegedly putting a "Hate Bush" subject line on an E-mailed invitation.

Estrich is a University of Southern California Law School professor and Fox News commentator who gained fame in 1988 as campaign manager for losing Democratic presidential nominee Gov. Michael Dukakis .

Litella, of course, was the late Gilda Radner's "Saturday Night Live" character who delivered ranting, fist-pounding editorials on "Weekend Update," only to back down immediately when told that she had misheard the central point.

Thus Estrich scorched David, the organizer of this week's celeb-studded closed-door Democratic strategy session at the Beverly Hilton, for hurting Democrats everywhere by sending "an E-mail forwarding invites to the 'Hate Bush 12-2 Event.' "

12. Welcome to DU!
But, the original post is right: "Never mind" was a catchphrase for the character Emily Litella.

5. Susan is a big time sell out and a soulless creep
She's a pawn of the GOP now and nothing more. They put her on TV and make her feel important and she recites their talking points for them. I think she's an alky as well, she always looks half assed drunk, or maybe she's on the Oxy, who knows.

18. I think she always was a GOP operative.
And guess which candidate she pushes? The same as Frank Luntz. Coincidence?

6. Spurned Lover Syndrome???
I used to love Susan back in the day before Cable News and her "going Hollywood".

Ever since the Clinton inquisition, she's always come off as spiteful about the Democratic Party...and the Clinton wing in specific...that made her ideal for Faux. Maybe someone knows why she was excluded from the '92 campaign (my bets are cause she was such a disaster for Dukakis in '88) and that set in motion this ever-growing self-loathing.

I heard bits and pieces of her latest jag on the Hannity Hate-fest the other night and laughed it off considering the spokespeople for the event were readily heard/seen all over the place prior to the gathering. Hannity tried to make this seem like some clandestine terrorist cell and Estrich just twisted it to make it seem like it was her terrorist friends. Yeah, right.

Personally, I like seeing the "establishment" Democrats like her and Brazille and others climb over into the "dark side"...that shows the vulturistic nature of some of the party "pros" as opposed to the majority who support core values and beliefs.

9. Oh yeah she is
Her and Rove are pals and she's on the board of an extreme right-wing organization, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. Brazille and Estrich are both useless.

14. Opportunity
Brazille took a lot of slack for her handling of Gore's campaign. There are many here who hold her personally responsible for losing Tennessee and the how a campaign that should have been won was lost.

She's a regular on CNN with Pat Buchanan's "baby sister", Bay, all the time, and you can sense she's definitely on the outside looking in. Where she would appear on shows like Crossfire and even Hate and Strawman (when the DNC would send people on Faux), but now she's billed as "independent".

Keep in mind, campaign top guns make a lot of money running these shows and being outside means having to make a lot of career changes...aka academia or punditry or lobbying...either way, there's going to be sour grapes, especially at the outset of the political season.

10. "Who is Larry David?"
I'm assuming that was a rhetorical question. Unless, of course, she missed that whole Seinfeld thing in the 90's.

I sent Susan a couple of fairly point Emails- hopefully several people did.

If you don't have your facts straight, you'll look like an ass everytime (I wish I wasn't speaking from experience).

15. No matter...the lie sticks..
The "Hate Bush" theme was touted by every single TV "news" network...and not one person countered the lie with any credibility. Trouble is that everyone who is asked, denies hating Bush. That's ridiculous. Hatred for Bush is rampant and real, and there's NOTHING wrong with acknowledging that. When asked any question that reeks of manipuation, Dems curl up and die. Repugs had NO problem declaring their hatred of Clinton, and wore their hatred proudly. You know...I HATE Bush, and all his cronies and puppeteers. They've destroyed this county...and I hate them for it. So do something.

16. Defining "Bush Hate"
The point seems to always get lost here...even among Democrats.

My hate is toward this regime and how it has destroyed this country I love. It's hatred for the policies it pushes against the interests of the majority of this nation and the world. You know the rest...

Then there's the personal hate of Bush based on his arrogance and ignorance...that smug "in-your-face" bullying that has been his personal tone. Plus there's the free passes this boy has had all along the way and his total, absolute denial of any sense of personal responsibilities for any actions either he does or that is done in "his name"...yet can't wait to hop in the flight suit to take credit.

The two are very seperate...and I can ignore the frat boy as opposed to the real thieves running this regime.

The "media" likes to broadbrush this since the range of people's destest for Bush are so wideranging, but the personal hate almost everyone can easily define.

for all her ouevre of Dem bashing quite apart from this one instance. Notice that she still leaves the smear on DAVID with the half-assed "apology" - "Somebody was."
