Is there a place in a Democratic Administration for Al Gore?
Secretary of the Interior or Environmental Czar for instance...and while we're on the subject- how about Secretary of State for Bill Clinton?

1. I've been suggesting Environmental Czar for two years.
We need a Pres. and an environmental czar who can hit the ground running on this issue and not wait for the "science" because they already KNOW the science and understand the economy and legislation with a worldwide view.

That's Kerry and Gore, especially since Gore has found his liberal leanings once more.

2. The Ultimate Position for Gore is not in an administration
It's on the Supreme Court of the United States.

3. Secretary of State or UN ambassador. . .
where he can "talk turkey" about trade, the environment, etc.

I'd get Bill Clinton for special envoy to the ME.

14. in the U.S., UN ambassador doesn't have the prestige that it should
I'm willing to bet that a vast majority of people couldn't name the current, or even any former UN ambassadors from the U.S.

If he's still strongly dedicated to it, I could see him involved in the environment, or possibly even an "Energy Czar" to oversee the researh and development of alternative sources.

4. Of course there is.
He could have almost anything he wants. I doubt it would happen.

6. Why on Earth would Gore or Clinton take anything lower than Pres?
They both already got elected to the highest position.

Clinton would be good as UN Chief...Gore should just keep working on heading up a liberal TV channel.

7. Secretary of State
It's Al Gore's job if he wants it in any Democratic administration, I believe. Or U.N. Ambassador if he prefers.

There's ample precedent. Adlai Stevenson was Kennedy's U.N. Ambassador, and Adlai literally saved the world from nuclear war with his masterful (and memorable) diplomacy at the Security Council.

13. I would rather see Bill Clinton in the role-
I don't picture Al Gore as the "master statesman" that Bill Clinton is. Ive never been a huge fan of him personally, but Clinton is loved around the globe, is a proven and respcted statesman, and it would drive the RW insane.
I do think though, that Al should have a prominent position in any future Dem administration. something environmental seems like it would be a good fit, if his heart's still strongly in it.

9. DNC Chair?
He seems to be taking on more of an elder statesman status - offering general guidance rather than day-to-day policy work. Plus, he can tap into the fundraising machine & IMO is in the best position to resolve the DLC/Lefty split.

10. Resolve the "DLC/Lefty split"?
If Gore wants to resolve the "DLC/Lefty split", he needs to apologize for endorsing the business tied conservative Gavin Newsom over the progressive Matt Gonzalez in the nonpartisan San Francisco mayoral election (see http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1204-13.htm). Although I respect some of Gore's recent speeches, he is not the person to resolve the split.

I see Gore's role as a speechmaker to whip up the party faithful.

12. Can you just imagine what the rightwingers would do
If Clinton got a position? (SecState would be good) I bet you'd hear popping noises all over the US as their heads explode from the thought of having Clinton around for another 4(8!) years.....

15. How about Homeland Security or the AG?
He is wonderfully qualified for any number of positions, including several already mentioned. As VP he did environment, terrorism, and economics.

I mention HS specifically because a report he did at Clinton's request, contains remidies that would probably have prevented 911- at 3 or 4 pts of planning, there would have been roadblocks.

He'd be a real prize in any Dem admin

17. Yeah President
that's what he was elected to. Why should he accept less when he can have more influence (to say nothing of a decent income for the first time in his life)in the private sector?
