Did W unseal HIS Texas gubernatorial records?
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 11:48 AM by underpants
I have heard this being said over and over by the Repube pundiatriat but I could have sworn they are locked up at Texas A&M. Am I remembering that right?

Anyway this is all just pre-emptive campaigning and deflecting the fact that W&Co. won't release anything now.

ON EDIT- deflecting

1. locked... and extended the lock on reagan and poppy's pres records
by executive order. With a funky twist that it can't be undone by another executive order (eg the next president) - that the ex pres, his family, and THEN a representative of the family (read: infinitim) would get to review the materials and determine whether or not they should remain sealed. Cute trick, eh?

2. They've tied it up with technicalities
so the records are, in a practical sense, inaccessible.

7. Of course it could be undone by another executive order.
No way could w tie the hands of future presidents like that.

No one has reported a hell of a lot of Enron memo's - although we know Ken Lay wrote often.

So I assume the GOP gov - Perry - is not making the Bush papers all that easily available.

But officially, they have now been taken out of Dad's library, and placed under the Texas Open Doc's law.

Given how he is the only person known to have all his drug convictions and DUI removing from his driving record - by the simple means of ordering a new license that did not have the past history - a fact our media does not seem too upset about-

and Given how his military record lost his court martial for AWOL and desertion - and only retained the punishment of a 6 month forced extenstion to his original committment to the Texas Air National Guard (served in a unit that did not meet!) - I suspect that whatever papers that came back are now ready for viewing!!!!! And that the GOP - Perry & Co. - are just making it hard on the media just for the pleasure that doing so gives them!!!

:-)

But I will keep my eye out for those ENRON love notes showing up via a search requested by someone in the medis - but if it is OK with everyone - I just won't hold by breath until they are the nightly news!!!

:-)

Given media bias - none of this means that Dean will not be forced to open his files before the Vermont standard 6 years are up - or the 10 years he got OK'd by the AG - cause the media has no problem with different standards for GOP and DEM - and indeed tellings lies like the ABCNote crowd that try to imply the Bush records under Texas open doc law means Bush docs are available is SOP.

sigh .... :-)

:-)

5. They even locked Laura's driving wreck report
and you would think if it was exactly as described then it wouldn't have been a big issue.

10. Thank you! I remember the same thing
I remember that *bush had his governor records sent to his father's repository.

And the lie is being repeated over and over in both print and television media that * unsealed those same records.

I woke up this morning ranting about this lie to my family. Thanks for remembering too.

11. He was made to send them to the Texas State Library, still not open.
See my post just above this for all the restrictions.

He did NOT voluntarily open his files.
You must ask for a file in great detail.
Archivist has 10 days to decide if it is ok.
Attorney General has 45 days to decide if it is ok.
Then I think Governor Perry has his hand on the final key to lock or unlock.
My post above has a lot in it.

14. He probably shredded the bad bits
There's a double standard. And we can't do anything about it. So I don't think focusing on Dean's documents is doing anyone much good. In my opinion, there will only be a few small petty things that Rove could use--if I believed Dean had some hideous evil secret, I might think differently.
