All the people and events in and near Cedar Rapids plus the local office should show up there. It's the "Get Local" portal. You'll be able to get to work today if you want! Go for it. It will make you feel SO much better.

I was going to send him a PM welcoming him to the midwest (I live in neighboring Wisconsin) and he is tombstoned. Hard to believe a DU without Jiacinto.

Well if you are reading this somewhere, Good Luck Carlos. I know from what I've read here on DU it has been a tough last few months. I think you will like Iowa and it is the place to be right now for a political junkie like you.

Sadly, we cannot review the case of this suspect tombstoning... though i know jiacinto was inclined to be hotheaded and directly spoken... i never expected his banning outright... surely he'll reincarnate one day somewhere else.. and it will be their benefit and not ours... such is death and reincarnation.

I wish i knew his offense to be so tombstoned... as i'd surely feel better about such radical action were i to see it with my own eyes... and i myself have had my share of lockings, deletions and moderator warnings... and next when the name is "sweetheart", nobody will give a toss... just like appears here with carlos.

Dear carlos, It was wrong to delete you. I'm sorry it happened. Please reincarnate and forgive those who took you from us.

yet you say it was "wrong". Do you often arrive at conclusions when you don't have any idea what happened?

Carlos could be pretty offensive FYI. I recall one instance when he assumed he was the only orphan in the world and gave me a mighty self-righteous lecture. How he quieted down when I let him know I have no parents either. He also arrived at conclusions when he had no idea of the facts.

With that said, if he is gone, I'd wager it was for good reason. Skinner etc have been pretty tolerant of him over the years.

Blanket censorship is wrong... like in deletion. Carlos and i never got in to it, and i don't much agree with his politics, but he is a democrat with an opinion that stirred discussion and views that i have not considered. I rather think of Boromir in the lord of the rings... he clearly had bad moments, but he was also a noble allie and collegue supporting the resistance.

Methinks of carlos similarly... and yes it was WRONG to tombstone him.... there are other ways... make posters who offend, pay fines to get their ID back... take away threadstarting priviledges, or take away publishing priviledges for a period of time...

Carlos is the same man he was yesterday, and i enjoyed having his thoughts in the mix... and for every person like him, you and me who speak up, there are 1000 more in american life who do not... so what was really tombstoned was 1000 democrats.. like 'em or not.

I respect the job of the admins is difficult, and still i believe there is a more moderate path than deletion.

What prompted the tombstoning, though? He could be incredibly annoying, but I never stuck him on ignore... his obstinance made for great drama.

Volunteers are coming from all over to help out right before the caucus, so you bet they can use anyone locally too! I'll be hopping a chartered bus from Houston for the final weeked! YIPPEE!!!:-)

P.S. I saw a big (double long) bumper sticker today, and asked the gal where she got it. She said she made it herself. It said: "With a Bush, a Dick, and a Colin, we're screwed no matter who's in charge!"
