Are any of the candidates a member of the ACLU?

Just saw the poll thread for DUers.

I really respected that Mike Dukakis was a member of the ACLU and
was surprised and disgusted how it was used against him in 1988.

Does anyone know if any of the candidates is a member?

It certainly would add to my respect for whoever is a member, as free speech is of paramount importance to me, and although I can personally accept moderation for the good of maintaining clear discussion (in science or even here at DU), I do not want the first amendment diluted in any way.

If a candiate is not a member, why do you think he/she is not?

But the ACLU is (I still don't know why) considered a radical organization by many, and membership seems like a great way to lose votes from moderates and southerners. The ACLU of course doesn't deserve this reputation, but it has it at any rate.

I haven't seen any identified as such, but Edwards, Kerry, and Dean are against amending the Consitution to ban "flag desecration," so they obviously understand that dissent is part of what makes America great.
