One Wingnut accusation I am guilty of.....

I do find myself in a very unsettling position of catching myself rooting against our nations interests.

As Rush or Sean has accused, I am one who finds myself reveling in negative news of the War in Iraq and the economy.

I find it troubling.

I have and do rationalize it.

I understand that at my core I truly believe the course Bush has put us on is a dangerous one. I am against empire building. And I realize if Bush were to execute the Iraqui campaign smoothly it would embolden him to set his sights on Iran or Syria.

I find his tax cuts to be irresponsible, and the deficit he is generating to be a threat to choke our economy down the road.

But that does not excuse the fact I am rooting in a stagnate economy and a quagmire in Iraq....

Feelings?

1. Well, don't root for a bad economy
First of all, as you know, the economy is based on a lot of things, and the white house is only one factor. Now the fact that President Bush's economic policy is idiotic certainly doesn't help the economy. But the other factors could pull it up and if they do, be happy that people are working, even if it might make it harder to get President Bush out of the White House.

The same with Iraq, although moreso. There the deception and failures of this administration are far more obvious, and we need to keep hammering away at the boneheaded mistakes they made.

I'm not a big fan of the theory that it's better that the people suffer now so that they can be inspired to build a better world tomorrow. In my experience, people suffering are less likely to make good decisions.

Anyway that's my thoughts.

"The Bad news is, the news is good", by Stan Sinberg

I posted the article on my web site.

what you're 'rooting' for
is not exactly against us, you're rooting against Bush and for his failure. it is representative of your desire to see him gone. his failures work against him and in the Nation's favor if it transfers to an electoral win.

3. Indeed, that sorta happens
Is occupying iraq now in our national interests? Is a republican grab of tax money stimulus to military-buildup and nuclear weapons in our national interest? I think not... and i agree, that in opposing the rote undermining of the national interest, one is open to the charge (by shallow ignorant republicans) of being against america.

The only interests i serve are those of all human kind, and the BFEE has gone to war against human kind.... and every loss of them and their minions is a subtle victory for human kind. That is my heartfelt knowing, and i'm sure were i alive in 1943, i would have felt similarly at every defeat of naziism.

You are a real blue blooded american with a conscience, and it is the republicans that have twisted their war-and-theft semantics to have you doubt your patriotism.

They should be in prison, and you need not fret over your healthy human conscience.

"Liberals want to feel guilty".

Fuck them right in the ear, they don't like "America" they like W and they hate you and the other half of America with as much venom as they can muster. Revel in watching their stupid, simple ideas fall apart like the ignorant idiocy they always were. That it has consequences for real humans should just make you hate them more.

8. True.....
BUT and I think it's a big but....

it is American deaths they are reporting in Iraq, and I don't like my initial reaction I get when I hear of an attack.

This isn't a football game, I am not rooting for a fumble or an interception. First and foremost my political concerns and desires should take a distant second place to the safety of all our boys there.

That being said.. I remember when we were rolling to Baghdad and it success was soooo easy. I remember hearing the Neo Cons debating which country should be our next target. So I know the problems in Iraq are helping to contain further aggressions.

5. Desire for vindication
Hi KensPen,

It seems to me that wanting to be proven right is a very strong motive. But when we are being proven right about *'s disastrous failures in international relations, stewardship of the economy and the environment, it's hard to find much pleasure in it. Especially when wanting to be proven right is twisted by the Bush admirers into wishing harm on America.

I wish I had been wrong about how awful * would be. I must have repeated the phrase "worst president in history" a hundred times *before* he stole the office-- yet he's been far worse than I imagined.

6. AAAARRRRGH
I don't even believe the "good" news on the economy is actually any good. I mean, how much of the economic growth of late is attributable to Mortgage refinancing??? That ain't growth, that's just crap. High Productivity??? that just means that fewer workers are working longer hours because they've had the fear of unemployment put into them. This is still a jobless recovery, when we see employment figures back to what they were in 2000, then I will hurrah, hurrah, hurrah, and still vote Democrat.

As far as Iraq is concerned, I do not revel in the bad news as it translates into dead Americans. However, as the world makes it harder and harder for us to get anything done because we have in charge such a nasty crew of short sighted God knows what to call these things...Well, I see bad news as confirming what I have always thought about the chimp and his crew.

I don't revel, I just cringe and hope we can dump these cretins....

14. I suggest you find a doctor local to you
You may have some serious problems if you wish the economy would turn bad and that American soldiers would die.

12. Schadenfreude
at Bush*'s miserable failure plus the dubious "pleasure" at being proven right. I don't really take pleasure in these things, but it is what I expected to happen thanks to *'s irresponsible policies and I do take pleasure in the notion that his failures hasten the day he is sent back to Texas in disgrace.

agree with you?

I don't know anyone who wants to see America go down the tubes so one political party can benefit. Obviously, they're out there but I'm not one of them.

17. You're right - this is not a football game
The stunts of Bush* and his misadministration are diastrous, but I get angry and then sad when I see the wounded and the death counts.

I did hear a fella on c-span this morning say something like 'maybe this country needs another 4 yrs. of Bush* and these neocons to determine that we don't ever want this again'. If people aren't waking up by now I think we're in deep shit.
