Reagan's firsts

Does anyone have that list of Ronald Reagan's list of firsts (such as the first never to acknowledge Christ in any of his speeches).

First to tax un-employment compensation. He said un-employment was
nothing but a paid vacation for blue collar workers.

also first to throw mentally ill onto street - first time in CA when gov by telling Leg that he would build many small mental health facilities to replace warehouses then in use - and then just closing the warehouses and putting them on the street. And the as Pres. - terminating the Carter Mental Health bill and all federal mental health funding in the Aug 81 budget bill - claiming that this increased State choice and fexibility - since he put "block grants" in partial replacement for those dollars - into that budget. States closed mental health as too costly - and folks went on the street and into homeless shelters.

Also first to put together an all out effort to remove folks on disability from Social Security, saying that most were not really disabled from ANY job in the economy and it was the disabled person's problem to get where the ANY job that was designed so as to allow them to work - at some wage - was located.

First person to cut school lunches to give tax cuts for the rich - declaring veggies unnecessary as that was covered by Ketshup.

First to run drugs and arms so as to get money to run a war that Congress had refused to fund. First to finance murders in Central America because they were done by right wing folks and were just killing leftists and Nuns. First to commit treason in Iran-Contra. First to design a defence program based on a grade school coloring of an umbrella over the USA that kept missiles out (Star wars).

First person produced by GE - and finance by GE - to win Presidency.

First to ask another country to keep Americans prisoners (Iran) so he could win election.

First to honor Nazi SS graves.

First to try to destroy Social Security and Medicare by bankrupting the country via tax cuts for the rich (Bush is a good student).

First to cut and run in the face of terrorists =Marine barracks in Leb - and - as stated by bin Laden - the first to inspire bin Laden into thinking the US was a paper tiger.

First to wag the dog, by invading Genada two weeks after the disaster in Leb, capturing 30 Cubans with hand guns at the airport runway that they were helping to build, while he bombed the Mental Hospital - but then he went to war with no maps of Grenada - had to ask tourist outfits for xerox of whatever was in there vacation blurbs.

Reagan becomes Gov in 67.

In 67 the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act reforms mental with Reagans promise to build smaller facilities, Reagan can now shut down warehouses.

He then says that he must end the budgets projected $200 million deficit and proposes a 10% across-the-board cut. He then rapidly shuts the mental health hospitals - before replacements were built - and even managed to get a mention in the Mullen muder trial, where, after Mullin’s trial, the jury foreman wrote an open letter to Reagan, accusing him and the legislators of being “as responsible” for the murders as Mullin. Reagan called Mullin’s release a “psychiatric mistake.” And still did not built the replacement facilities.

Lanterman,Petris, and Short are interviewed and say that trusting Reagans promise was the biggest mistake in their careers - and was the only real problem with the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act.

I suspect you are recalling the Court decision against Brown that asked that the mental health Warehouse approach be improved, with more emphasis on half-way houses (part of the idea in Lanterman-Petris-Short).

So - sorry - but Reagan really was evil and hateful toward the mentally ill.

First to run as an x-union president then set out to break all unions by firing the air traffic controllers for going on strike. First to run against Democrat big spenders then run up the largest debt in history. First to run the debt over the $1 trillon mark. $ 2 trillon. $3 trillon and $4 trillon. First to loose his mind in office.

granted that Reagan only kept it as low as 2.7 by increasing the payroll tax.
