"Truth" and "Fact"
I see those terms get hurled around a lot. Here is a truth: the sky is blue. But wait...to a person who is color-blind the sky might not be blue. What is my point? Everyone perceives truth differently. Can we please keep that in mind as have discussions. Thank you.

2. Percieve This!
What if I I percieved President Bush to be a great president who is doing wonderful things for this country. And since my perception is just as valid as yours, I'm not going to listen to anybody who critiques my perception. As a a matter of fact, since we all percieve things differently, and we don't want to trample on each others perceptions, maybe its better if we shut down Democratic Underground, so that we don't run the risk of suggesting that each others perceptions might be nutty or incorrect.

I think this is intended as a plea for civility (which seems pretty popular these days), but saying we all have different perceptions is technically true, but not very useful.

4. It is simply an observation
That people are labelling their opinions and their perceptions as "truth" and "fact." Nothing gets people's backs up more than absolutes like that and it would be a lot more civil in here if people try to couch their arguments in ways that don't put others on the defensive.

6. A Fact is a recalled belief.
I try to use fact where the belief is shared.

Truth is an absolute, and absolutes belong in the realm of faith and thereby religion or philosophy.

How many worlds in a fish bowl of ten fish?
THIRTEEN.
If you understand me, thirteen's a fact. If you have faith in the idea of thirteen worlds in a tank of ten fish, it's a truth. But, in a world of hyperbolic rhetoric, neither truth, fact, nor opinion matter as words. We're lucky we matter at all.
