JOAN VENNOCHI
Dean mumbles and rambles
By Joan Vennochi, 12/10/2003
AL GORE'S endorsement was the highlight of Howard Dean's day. From there, it was all downhill.
---------------
Dean was talking fast, but not particularly
clearly or straight.

Asked about comments he made about whether he believes President Bush was forewarned about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Dean mumbled something about it being "the most interesting theory."

Asked under what circumstances it is appropriate for the commander in chief to lie, he referred vaguely to "some sort of national security matters."

He rambled when asked whether he agreed with Senator Hillary Clinton's view that the United States must keep troops in Iraq for an extended period of time and finally said yes.

Curiously, Dean complained that too much time was allocated to discussing Iraq and not enough to the economy. His antiwar stance made his candidacy. Why not talk about it, unless the former Vermont governor fears the discussion will reveal gaps in knowledge and experience?

Finally, Wesley Clark is the most improved candidate on the stage. Watch out, Dr. Dean. An endorsement from a former vice president is no substitute for a former general who knows how to plan and articulate an Iraq exit strategy.

I'm just pointing out that anything this woman writes (no matter who it is about) should be taken with a large grain of salt...

9. Maybe so....
aren't they all....but her assessment of what Dean said during the debate and the problem with it was my assessement as well. I watch and listen to Dean very closely to try to figure out what so many see in him and follow him so loyaly.......What I saw does not me understand it any more than before.

14. Thats just pure Dean Thrashing
for the sake of it. Its blatantly unfair to Dean. He talks fast alright but he was pretty coherent.

10. Obviously, I disagree
I think Dean's response to when the president should lie was that of someone who was confused by such an idiotic question; I think he was holding back if anything because I'm sure he wanted to say "what kind of stupid-ass debate are you conducting?!"

I don't think he "rambled" re: troops in Iraq. He was clarifying his position. If he didn't, he would be accused of being "vague." Geez, it's like a no-win situation for him!

11. Hi Frenchie..
I agree, Dean was horrible in the debate last night. Just think there are more to come in January.

Of course the funniest thing I've seen all day concerning Dean's campaign was that disaster in South Carolina when Jackson Jr. endorsed him.....

"After Dean's speech, he called people to come forward to register to vote. Those who came forward included a man wearing a coat decorated with a Confederate flag."

Like another poster stated "Careful what you wish for".

15. Sorry to disagree, but..
Asked about comments he made about whether he believes President Bush was forewarned about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Dean mumbled something about it being "the most interesting theory."

He didn't mumble, he stated that when asked why 9-11 happened he said that was the most interesting theory, but he did not believe it. Kinda reminds me of the invented the internet B.S.

All the other are half truths & spins as well. And by the way I'm not a Dean supporter, I'm just sick of the feeding frenzy.
