McGovern interviewed about Dean comparison, other topics
On CNBC's Brian Williams show tonight, Brian Williams invterviewed George McGovern.

McGovern says he hopes Howard Dean is like him, since he brought honesty and common sense to his campaign and was first among 17 contenders for the Democratic nomination.

Regarding the general election, McGovern said it was the voters who made a mistake, and that Nixon was forced to resign a year after starting his second term.

On another topic, Brian Williams asked (approximate quote) "Didn't Al Gore treat Lieberman horribly after Lieberman was so loyal?"

McGovern said Lieberman owes Al Gore for making him nationally famous.
Gore doesn't owe Lieberman anything.

------------
My comment: Lieberman was the opposite of loyal. He said that ballots cast by overseas soldiers AFTER the election, soldiers who weren't even registered to vote in Florida, should be included in the 2000 Florida recount.

2. It's a bad comparison
The better analogy is Howard Dean as our side's Barry Goldwater. He lost badly too, but spawned a movement which made possible the election of Ronald Reagan and the Gingrich Congress.

3. E J Dionne of the Washington Post said that Dean is
E J Dionne of the Washington Post said that Dean is like Barry Goldwater in that both lost/will lose, but were important to the conservative/liberal movement.

4. McGovern is a class act
and he is right, the voters made a horrendous mistake picking that miscreant Nixon instead. I sure hope we don't make the same mistake again and reselect an even worse miscreant in 2004.

5. Dean: The Voters Made a Mistake
Wow, what a wonderful headline to look forward to after election day 2004. That will almost make up for the fact that we'll have to endure another four years of Bush.

6. I myself have never understood the whole "LOSER!" thing on McGovern.
After Watergate, should McGovern be the Great Lost Opportunity for America, derailed by the stupidity of voters? Shouldn't voters in 1972 hang their heads in shame for not electing McGovern?

Later.

7. You better believe Lieberman OWES Gore....
I can tell you I had NO clue who Joe was before 2000. Granted I was only 16, but still. If it weren't for Gore picking him as VP, Lieberman wouldn't even be running this year.

If anything Lieberman should be thanking Gore until the cows come home that he was picked; or he wouldn't even BE in the 2004 race. Gore made Lieberman and I think he can break him too - which it looks like he may have done.

8. McGovern got a bad rap
from the (of course) sleezebag Reps...although Nixon did go up a little in my estimation tonight when I heard his tape about Reagan. Gore doesn't owe Joe L anything; Joe has been badmouthing Al ever since the election. And Al Gore has a right to endorse whomever he wants anytime he wants. It is still a free country.
