A post IE America plan.
When January comes, the last reaming liberal Radio will be no more. IE America is being shut down. And the shut down couldn't have come at a worst time as we will need it most for the presidential campaign.

And as the sun sets here, we suddenly find our selves looking at the new liberal network still on the drawing board. But we can not even entertain the elusion that ship is ready for launch, let alone being able to be able to be the new flag ship.

We liberals are going to have to buck up to some ugly facts. There is no radio station that we can erect that the neo-cons can not shut down by threat and coercion. But all is not lost.

There is the ready media.

If we can not run a transmitter, than we may be able to run a network server. Something they can not shut down. If we want to keep the voices such as Mike Malloy out there, than we have to do this.

Any thoughts?

1. I don't know the solution,
but we need to keep Mike at all costs. People are always asking "what liberal host can beat rush?". We already have him, but no one knows it...

2. Janeane Garafolo said on Thom Hartman's show
that the new news station has signed her on to do a news show and has signed up several others. She said they have already gotten office space and should be set to go in February. I hope that's true.

3. We need a new public radio.
One that hasn't been bought out by Archer Daniels Midland, etc. It would have to be supported by contributions and pledges.

Malloy is right: the very wealthy liberal left has not done their part in supporting liberal causes to keep the voices alive. Sure, token tidbits here and there, but we now no longer have a free press in this country.

Geezus I'm depressed. Somebody cheer me up.

5. Routing comerhal advertising.
Thanks to computers, we now have a new option. We can not connect local advertisers with the local area that they serve. Each receving packet would be ear-marked with a city that the packet is being sent too. When the programing brakes, the receving packet is then handed eather local adds on file (also tagged by city), or open add spots. We could also open this up to cities in other contries. So that lisiners in France or Germany can help support the server.

18. Now one is intrested in ideas like this?
I don't get it. I keep hearing people say "we need ideas." But when I put one out there, all I get are crickets.

6. Maybe one Superstation link website
Someplace that pulls together all of the odds and ends in one professional and easy to use online site.

There's a lot of molecules out there vibrating and pulsating. It's a matter of putting together the pieces so people can find them easily.

I think, unfortunately, Malloy will probably be lost. He has to make a living, so he probably will have to take whatever he can get. But maybe he'll luck out and find a good gig and maybe it'll be something that's available to all.

8. It's going to take real money.
You gotta pay salaries for on-air persons. At the very LEAST minimum union scale.

You gotta pay salaries for support staff.

You gotta pay salaries for ad sales.

You need infrastructure. A remote broadcast facility costs about $30,000. You need one for each host as you are not going to get them to move to your city to do this.

Who here has about thirty million?

Who here has a million?

Who here has 100,000?

Not rhetorical questions; Somebody needs to step forward with the cash to do this or all of the good intentions hard work and earnest planning in the universe will not achieve what we want to have happen.

If you have the money to do this, now is the time to step forward.

9. Look for George Soros....
to get in on this! He despises this Fascist regime running our country into the ground head first! If he isn't as rich as Bill Gates he sure is close!

10. And how would one get to Soros?
People that rich have an army of people around them whose job it is to make sure that you and I cannot ever talk to them.

If anybody has a constructive way to approach and actually talk to Mr. Soros, I am all ears.

12. "We" do have the money.
If you show that you have a plan, the common person will step forwored. But Enternet Add Routing will raise substanchal amounts of revinue to suport the operation. More important is that such a system is scalabule. You can start it small, and build as you need and as recorses grow. Stations starting out do NOT have to bradcast 24 hours. But the internet alouse programs to be looped back for a rebradcast.

As for starting up facilityes in other cities? Well that is tuff. Epecting a facility in each city is redicules. If they can not relocate, than they apprintly don't need the work all that bad, or feel that there voice is all that important.

19. If we do, how to collect it?
While I submit that 30,000 people each chipping in $1000 would be sufficient to buy a radio network and run it for a while at a loss, I wonder how likely it is that we could ever get that sort of money together?

Moveon.org has raised a few millions, and made a major impact with it, but we need a lot more than that!

If you can come up with a plan to make this happen, I will do whatever I can to help it along.

But this cannot be done on a shoestring. If it could, I'd be Rich, and Shelby LaPre of http://www.RadioPower.org/ would be rich. Her operation and my http://www.WhiteRoseSociety.org/ define what can be done with a shoestring budget and lots of hard work.

I reach 1500 people a day, a third of a million in the last year.

To sway an election, we would need to reach 1000 times more people.

I take in around $250 a month in donations, which does cover my costs, but I cannot even think of employing on-air talent!

If I wanted to employ somebody like Mike Malloy, I would need to be taking in $2500 a week!

Now, I'm not trying to discurage anybody, but I *am* trying to make you all understand how much real money is needed!

13. Liberal Talk Show - 1960's Pirate Radio
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 11:34 PM by jmatthan
If people are really committed to listening to Mike Malloy and Liberal Radio, then what happened in 1960's with the launch of Pirate Radio Caroline has to be repeated.

It is infinitely easier today with Internet Broadcast Streaming possibilities with Apple Quicktime.

Remember Al Gore is a member of the Board of Apple Computers Inc.

The solution is simple and so economical that huge financial support is unnecessary. The cash flow has to be generated to ensure that the liberal Talk Show hosts get their honest dues.

Organisations as MoveOn.org, etc can play the role in making sure this does come to pass.

15. And that pays Mike's bills how?
You want people to do a daily show, you have to pay them a living wage.

If you can put together a plan, you have my help, but it needs to pay salaries.

16. A good example
Look at THESE ratings:

http://www.rronline.com/Subscribers/ratings/ratmain.asp?mkt=snf

Notice what station is #1?

Yep. Liberal talk powerhouse KGO (owned by Disney). Sister RW station KSFO has HALF the listening audience (even with Limbaugh).

I know, I know - it's San Francisco. But it just shows that liberal talk is working somewhere.

20. At one time I was going to propose a network of Low Power Stations.
10 watt (or 100 watt) stations broadcasting 24/7 from streaming shows. 100, 200, 1,000 locations!

They can be set up for around $10k and have a 1-2 mile radius. They could be placed all over the country.

The problem is that there's a year wait on the damned licenses.

This could also be done with Low Power TV stations, I don't know about the licensing on them.
