"Revisions" Reveal That Clinton Caused Recession!
"Surprise, surprise, surprise!" as Gomer Pyle would say.

The U.S. economy shrank in the third quarter of 2000, the government said on Wednesday in revisions to official figures that showed America was on the brink of recession months earlier than previously thought....

...the revisions were not applied to third-quarter 2003 data -- leaving the most recent measure of growth unchanged at a swift annual clip of 8.2 percent. The next reading of third-quarter growth is scheduled for later in December....

Until now, statisticians at Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis believed the economy did not start shrinking until early 2001. But extensive revisions dating back to 1929, incorporating both improved statistics and changes to definitions, revealed a contraction in gross domestic product...in the July-to-September quarter of 2000.

Wow--all those revisions and improved statistics and changes to definitions. Doesn't this sound suspiciously like Winston Smith's old job in the Ministry of Truth?

1. what amazes me about these all-too numerous incidents
Is how they think the average American is going to notice? The average American barely knows who is vice-president.

9. Clinton's responsible for the Civil War...
and the Heartbreak of Psoriasis. Didn't you get the memo?

This is a standard Bush tactic--blame Clinton for everything.

I think the BFEE was responsible for the cooling of the Clinton economy. Here's the scenario: People will not change the party in the White House if things are going good. This is why Clinton got two terms: Bush the Elder had screwed up the economy really badly, which put Clinton in the WH in 1992; in 1996, things were looking good so naturally re-electing him to maintain the program he started was logical. And if

In 2000, the dotcom bubble was bursting, but we could have recovered. It wasn't the engine that drives the economy. Petroleum, however, is, and the BFEE is up to its ass in that business.

So let's throw out a MIHOP scenario: Bush needs a rotten economy if he wants to take the WH. Oil prices are capable of ruining the economy all by themselves. So let's have Poppy and Rummy approach the OPEC oil ministers, in secret of course, and ask them to taper off production at least until the election. Dubya can take the WH, and then you guys can turn the spigots back up.

So Bush did take the White House, but then a strange thing happened: all those oil companies that had turned down the spigots realized they liked their spigots where they were. This administration likes throwing tax breaks and special dispensations to oil companies no matter how much they pump. So gas prices are still high.

5. The economy blips during electioneering... surprise!?!?
Of course markets destabilize during unstable times, e.g. an upcomming election where the incumbant cannot run, i.e. election 2000.

Down in third, back up in fourth quarter... then Bushie did NOT inherit a recession by this. After an election year blip, the economy was last seen going up when W took office.

I still think the economy started to slip from great growth to mere good growth when Bush decided to run. (Oil stocks were making a curious rise. Being slowly bought?) It blipped when he announced. It nosedived when he was declared the winner. It recessed after he took office. Finally, it continues to stink while his stench fills the White House.

6. Neither Bush nor Clinton caused the recession.
The bursting of the stock market bubble did.

7. Yes, the Busheviks are now entering the Soviet Phase
of their seizure of the Foremelry Free American Republic.

These words should be taken the same as THESE words, from people very much like the Busheviks (but with a different rationale for THEIR tyranny), "Comrades! Toilet Paper Production is up 600%. Do not believe the rumor spreading about six hour lines waiting for toilet paper. These are lies spread by Enemies of the State and malcontents."

Yes, the Busheviks have now successfully purged and plundered their way through the government agencies which once were menat to acumulate honest statistics.

They now serve their Emperor first and foremost, the same way similar agencies in the Soviet Union existed for no purpose except to validate Comrade Stalin's pronouncements.

My God, how far and fast Amerika has fallen. And we have so much farther to go...

...Raygun and Bush I caused that 8 years of peace and prosperity that Clinton got? How logical!

10. They were saying that long ago!
I was talking to a freeper once. He said that Reagan's economy was Carter's fault, Bush's economy was because the Reagan economic miracle hadn't quite come to full fruition yet, Clinton's economy was because of the Reagan economic miracle and Bush was the victim of Clinton's disastrous economic schemes.
