Green Republicans!
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 10:55 AM by Ivory_Tower
(Edit: since this is dropping like a rock, I thought I'd try a catchier title...)

but I thought this was interesting:

http://www.repamerica.org/

I used to look at this site a couple of years ago, back when I thought I was a moderate. :) The post about Rocky Mountain National Park got me thinking about the site again, so I thought I'd take another look.

Check out their environment report card:

http://www.rep.org/news/GEvol6/ge6.3_reportcard.html

Personally, I just find it encouraging to see that there are Republicans who feel passionately about the environment. This site is not a fire-breathing rant site, but a calm presentation of their policies and views. A lot of their goals seem indistinguishable from many goals I've seen on "our side". Sadly, their disclaimer does point out that they are not affiliated with the official GOP, so I wonder how much influence they really have.

Just thought I'd post this to remind people of the way things used to be -- Republicans and Democrats could work together to solve common problems and reach common goals. There's no reason why that can't happen again in the future.

One gratuitous kick back to the first page. (Then I'll leave it alone.)

3. TR
Let's not forget the President who started heavy government involvement in protecting the environment was a Republican. Teddy Roosevelt.

4. Conservation used to be a traditional Republican platform plank...
...way back around the turn of the 19th-20th Century.

Poor Teddy Roosevelt has been spinning in his grave since Botch* got elected (actually, he's been spinning for awhile -- but a lot faster now).

That whole 'conservative' (as in conservation) wing of the party got kicked out when the corporate money reached critical mass, and the Republicans decided, "To hell with the future!".

but, those were also the Republicans that crossed over and voted for Clinton. They'll be back in 2004. Bush may have convinced them he was a moderate in 2000, but, he certainly canNOT in 2004.
