1. Nader works for Bush
Nothing else can explain what a disasterous move it would be.

3. Nader in the news on CNN
Did you see this article here? Lcearly written by a non-Nader, non-Green fan. (I considered the SF race to be close, esp in light of how Greens usually finish.)

"Forget Al Gore and Howard Dean. The endorsement we're watching today is from Susan Sarandon to Ralph Nader.

Nader returns to the '04 spotlight tonight, traveling to Princeton, New Jersey, for a $100-a-head fund-raiser organized by the state's Green Party and hosted by millionaire attorney Carl Mayer. Mayer, it should be noted, is a former Dem and longtime Naderite who defied his former party by challenging then-vulnerable Rep. Rush Holt in '00 as a Green. (Holt, a Democrat, won that race by 1,101 votes).

Nader has promised to announce within the next several weeks whether he'll run in '04. But in the meantime, he has authorized the Nader 2004 Presidential Exploratory Committee to start raising funds for that race.

Sure they lost the San Francisco mayoral runoff on Tuesday (it wasn't even close). But while the Greens may not have perfected the art of winning elections, they're pretty deft at helping Democrats lose them."

but if it gives us a chance to tell Nader not to be a raider and spoiler this time, and to forget about running, I don't see the problem.

14. Don't worry, It'll be a place for Dean Supporters to run to if they
don't get the nomination. That way they don't have to sit on their hands at the next convention when someone other than their candidate is speaking.

26. This Dean supporter is ABB all the way
and my second choice is Clark. I also know NOT ONE Deanie who would either vote for Nader or do anything but fervently volunteer, donate, and generally work their asses off for whoever the Dem nominee is. In the future please try and avoid the sweeping generalizations. Thank you.

27. Ralph Nader is NOTHING like Howard Dean
Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 05:07 PM by Terwilliger
and while there might be a few Deanies who might wish to support Nader, the lion's share don't and would support Clark over Nader.

You Clarkies are becoming an unlikeable breed.

15. I filled it out too, with these comments
I hate not being able to vote for Ralph, but I feel we need to unite everyone get Bu$h out, even if it means that we wind up with a corporate centrist in office instead of religious corporate fascist.

Let's use '04 to get Bu$h out and election reforms in, then regroup for '08. With IRV we'll have a better chance not only at electing a progressive as president, but we can get more onto the Hill, which will give that president the backup (s)he needs.

19. OMFG
Yeah, I just left my comments on that site, asking him to NOT run in 2004 and to endorse the Democratic nominee.

He's trying to guage what level of support he would have if he does run. Keep the comments coming; be polite but please ask him to not run, to sit 2004 out, and to endorse the Democrat. If you voted for him in 1996 and/or 2000, mention that too. Hopefully he will get the message.

22. I think Ralph WANTS you to discourage him from running
It all fits into his message.

Ralph's message:
Welcome to our exploratory website, which could be subtitled -- for both you and me -- "keep an open mind and evaluate the variables."

The way I read that, based on my gut feeling about Ralph, is that those "variables" are the number of negative responses he gets from Dems and the number of encouraging posts he gets from Repubs. If he gets enough of each, he'll run.

28. I'm a proud former Nader voter
I may be supporting Dean this time around, but I think a lot of the anger at Nader is misplaced. Like Sharpton and Kucinich, he can be a force for keeping the Democratic party focused on the right issues. Here's what I wrote in my comments to his survey:

I voted for you in 2000 and still feel that the issues you champion are extremely important. However, this election cycle I am turning my energies in another direction. I have decided, as I believe many of your former supporters have, to support the candidacy of Howard Dean in 2004. This is partly because I have faith in Dean, the man, but even more important is my excitement about Dean, the movement. More than anything else, I believe that the energy of his grassroots movement offers the greatest chance to return the Democratic party to the issues most of its members still embrace, but which it has turned its back on in the pursuit of corporate money. This election cycle, I believe more good can be done by supporting Dean's grassroots organization than can be done by voting for a third party. I would encourage you to keep fighting the good fight, but I know that you can not help but do that. I just hope you can find it in yourself to offer your amazing experience, insight, and focus on the issues that matter to whoever wins the Democratic party nomination, and I hope that, this time, they finally find the grace to accept it in the spirit in which you have always offered it.
