Dean first presidential hopeful to qualify for Utah Demos' primary

Howard Dean is the first presidential candidate to qualify for the Utah Democratic Party's unofficial primary election planned in February.

Considered the front-runner in the crowded Democratic field based on polling, fund-raising and Vice President Al Gore's Tuesday endorsement, Dean already has made two appearances in Utah this year.
State Democratic Chairman Donald Dunn says he hopes all nine Democratic candidates will participate in the party-run primary. "This will be a great party-building activity."

Dunn agreed that Dean's efforts to become the first qualified candidate "does say something -- that they've got quite an organization all over the country."
