Can we set up own own exit polling at precints??
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 03:46 PM by SoCalDem
Is it illegal??

Why couldn't we have a large sign that says..

WE DO NOT TRUST CALIFORNIA'S FUTURE TO COMPUTER VOTE COUNTING

and have a copy blown up of the recent articles..

Could we have a sign up sheet where Dems could DECLARE that they in fact voted NO...??

At the end of the day , if we had signatures verifying a 1000 NO vote, and the precinct said there were ..say 300... we would be able to VERIFY the names and addresses of people who swore that they voted NO..

Shit..we could even notarize sigs if necessary...

This will be a horror story if it's a yes..

The media has been playing along by "reminding" us daily that "...even Dems don't like Davis"...

I really think that no matter how many NO votes we get, we ARE gonna get Enroned AGAIN :(

2. You could, but...
you'd need some reliable historic data and a couple of good statisticians. You can poll after someone leaves the voting booth, but you'd need to know how to avoid biasing or skewing the results because of improper polling.

4. I am not really interested in "polling" like that
What I am after is a VERIFIED list of all who voted NO.. I would think that anyone would be willing to say how they voted..

If there is hanky pany within the machines or at the time of counting, it's too late to challenge whatever count they come up with...but if they say 300 voted NO and we have signed affidavits that state that 1000 people voited NO, and we can FIND them...we at least have something to take to the news media..

Personally , I don't care about the ones who voted YES.. as long as WE know how many voted NO and what the total in the precinct, we are covered..

If there are 1500 in a precinct and 200 did not vote..we have 1000...there BETTER only be 300 YES votes..

We could PROVE our NO votes...but could they???

5. I don't know about proof.
I don't think they would rise to the level of proof, but it would be a very strong piece of evidence.

There's also going to be a group of folks who are won't participate for various reasons. Reasons could included being to busy, distrusting, or just not aware, so the numbers would be a subset of the actual "no" votes.

I support it, but Id caution against overplaying the results.

6. Just BEING there could discourage cheating
If you know there is an auditor in the office, you are always more "careful" ...:)

8. Polling is a really BIG job...

... seems simple at first, but I don't see any way we could get anything credible together in 2.5 months.

Our best bet is to make sure whoever traditionally does exit polling in our communities is doing so in this election. L.A. Times usually does exit polling for local elections here in L.A. Write letters to them. Make sure they'll be there. They may even want you to volunteer.
