LA Times poll of DNC members: Dean more than doubles his nearest rival

The Times Poll, under the direction of Susan Pinkus, interviewed 327 of 386 selected DNC members. Those who traditionally stay neutral until the nomination fight is settled — such as national Chairman Terry McAuliffe — were not included, nor were committee members living abroad.

The survey began Dec. 4 and ended Thursday; on Monday, word surfaced that former Vice President Al Gore would endorse Dean the next day. The nod from Gore appears to have benefited Dean among these party insiders.

Twenty-nine percent of DNC members surveyed before the endorsement said they backed Dean. Of the members surveyed after Gore's announcement, 44% favored Dean.

Here's a snippet from the article:

Who are these people saying Dean can't beat Bush, or at least that the others have a better chance of beating him? Hmmm.

As a testament to Dean's increased strength, he is now seen as the candidate best able to defeat Bush.

And these are party "insiders". Not sure what it means exactly, but I like it. I think many people would have predicted a different outcome in a poll like this. :)

That would explain the Gates, Sr. association and large WA State fundraising capabilities.

I don't get it.

He's got a lot of Dem insiders in this state working on his campaign. Just makes more sense after seeing some of the players, including McDonald and Pam Eakes.

I think it's fair to say he's got some outsiders supporting him in WA too.

He's also raising buckets of cash from this state and it isn't the $70 variety.

How much cash is in a "bucket", anyway?

The public records are right there, find a zip-code map and plug-in the data to find the contributors, easy:). I'd say a bucket could hold anywhere from $100-$2000...

so your post to that search engine doesn't matter for out-of-state DUers.

I like DK and I am dismayed and angry about what ABC did.

I will vote for Dean in the primaries but part of my heart will always belong to DK.

But that was a funny subject: "I could care less what you think" and "You can change your logo back to Dean." File that under: How to Contradict Oneself in 15 Words or Less!

I didn't make the claim. I don't believe it or have any reason to. You haven't posted any facts yet. I'll check it out if you do. Who's got time to chase down all the silly accusations that get posted on this board?

On the other hand, if Dean is getting a lot of contributions from people who live in Washington State, that makes me happy. I don't need to do research to know that Dean is a successful fundraiser.

I was hoping you would try to back up your accusations with facts, so we could have a real discussion about whether Dean raising "buckets of cash" in Washington was a good thing or a bad thing. But I guess you won't. Odd, since you seem to have the info you need. Did you do the research, or just throwing stuff out there?

Especially living in Seattle. Accusing Dean of raising lots of money isn't exactly damning:).

Raising lots of money is indeed a good thing. Personally I've given $2000 to the Dean campaign, and my husband (the Republican) has given almost $1000 so far.
