60 Minutes: Tenet Healthcare Corporation and Michael Moore
The Tenet Healthcare Corp story was another good example of unbridled corporatism having a very bad consequences for stiffs like you and me. A doctor in one of their hospitals was performing heart surgery on patients who had nothing wrong with their hearts, and with the full support (if not complicity) of the hospital's administration. He was outed by an activist priest who the doctor wanted to operate on.

I liked the story on Michael Moore. He's a working class stiff who sets out to ruffle a few feathers that need ruffling. And he does it with humor. He works very hard at what he does, and to our benefit. He is pro-labor and anti-corporation. I think he gets too much of a bum rap from DUers. I'll admit his gun stance is controversial. But the comparative stats on gun murders in various countries is remarkable.

1. as regards the surgery story
don't call me surprised -- until an earthquake happens under the corporate castles in this country the little guy is just part of the game on the lords hunting park.

5. What time and network?
Don't usually watch because I am usually disappointed. Frontline and NOW have even disappointed me, since I really HOPE that people will DIG for the story and they just give us superficial guff.

7. Mixed results on tonight's show.
Showing the corruption in that health care company was good.

The Russian bluegras band piece was good too.

But the Moore piece was too superficial.
Besides, that part where the HMO gave in for a guy's transplant, how about a follow-up?
How many others are still dying on that HMO plan because the bean counters put profits before lives?
Moore gets his 15 minutes, and then what?

That's the biggest gripe many people have with Moore.
He gets the publicity, then abandons them.

9. I don't see that at all

When Moore screams as loud and obnoxiously as possible so as to get the average Joe's attention, I guess I can see why you feel that way. But it isn't warranted. He's just the messenger. If he was all meek and deferential, no one would have ever heard of him.

Abandon us?? He continues to lead the charge (new book coming out in Oct - did you look at the link?). He (and I) expect us to FOLLOW HIS LEAD!!

11. I like Michael.
I think voting for Nader is what pisses DU'ers off. I loved his speeches at the Academy Awards both during and after. He really ruffled all the freeper press with his very honest words.
