Newsweek Poll Has Dean Out On Top
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 03:17 PM by slinkerwink
New National Poll from Newsweek!

The poll was taken December 9th
Dean- 24% (16)-poll # from last month
Clark- 12% (15)
Lieberman 12% (8)

Bush vs Dean - 49% to 42%.
Bush vs Lieberman - 51% to 42%
Bush vs Clark - 49% to 43%

Dean's approval ratings may continue to climb, though, considering more than a third (35 percent) of registered Democrats consider Gore's endorsement significant enough to make them more likely to vote Dean, and a majority (53 percent) of all registered voters think Dean has at least some chance of beating Bush in a hypothetical two-way election against Bush next year.

11. Slink - you are one Lean, Mean, Dean Machine.
Are you a campaign operative of his? Your enthusiasm and dedication, and even your willingness to stand up to Will Pitt and other folks, makes me sit up and take notice (no harm meant, Will).

I salute you! But then again, I, too, am a Deanie, so I'd be open to that anyway. Didn't mean to take you too far away from your homework, though...

5. Whoa!
That is HUGE news! Wonderful!

Of course, Bush gets 49% in both polls (vs Dean and vs Clark), but Clark gets 43% and Dean gets 42%.

I guess 42.5% is the "unelectable" line for today's crowd.

16. Maybe because

there are 9 players on the field?

edited to ask: why is Clark only getting roughly 1 in 9 democrats behind him? How very odd.

17. Because the rest of us see his record doesn't match his rhetoric.
He gets name recognition points because that's what the press has been pushing since early spring. They have a storyline in mind for 2004 and it is not to benefit the Dem party.

18. Not as odd as Clark getting only 1/8
But then there are still 8 candidates. I expect the field to thin out by Feb.

19. not to mention that there is an imperialist wing in the Democratic Party
that shares a common world view that America must be the dominant power in the world, usually at the expense of weaker nations, and without regard to international law or sovereingty. The main Democratic proponent of this view is Joe Biden, but it traces its roots as far back as Scoop Jackson.

23. Still?
In case you hadn't noticed, he's gone from having the support of one sixth of the democrats to one quarter. It's called momentum, kinda the opposite of going from having the support of one sixth of the democrats to one tenth.

29. Clark Also Lost Ground Against Bush...
...in this poll, while Dean gained ground.

All Democrats can beat George W. Bush in 2004, assuming they have a clear message and the unfettered means of delivering it.

Lieberman 12 + Clark 12 = Dean 24

And Clark polls 1 point higher than Dean over Bush..

And note the date 12/9/03 After the Gore Endorsement.

27. Bush Under 50%, YEAH!
Gosh wasn't Bush The First at 80+ the year before the election? Once the campaigning starts you'll see Bush's numbers slide even more, as more people will be exposed to the other point of view.

Many of us have known that for a long time.

And Bush's* numbers are tanking.
