Florida DUers, help needed, Truck Accident: Uranium Munitions?
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 07:22 PM by G_j
on edit, this was sent to me, I have emailed asking about the date and location. If you find something please send it directly to nukewatch@lakeland.ws (not me) or call the numbers below.

Can you help us out?

CBS news Cincinnati, Channel 12, has reported today that a military weapons truck drove off the road, crashed and blew up on Florida today, on the way to an Air Force Base. Details are sketchy.
The phone call I just got was from a friend who didn't hear where this accident took place.
Did this truck accident involve uranium munitions?
Help us find out.

Please scan the Florida papers in the coming days and forward to us what you can find on the subject.
Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
John LaForge

4. Luck, WI
Looks like it's in NW Wisconsin, about 12 - 15 miles from the MN border. It's at about the fattest part of the mitten! :) It's in an area with lots of beautiful forests and pristine little lakes (with COLD water!).

8. More, mentions the munitions.
http://www.baynews9.com/site/NewsStory.cfm?storyid=29112

SNIP..."The southbound lanes were reopened first, after the Air Force cleaned up explosives being carried by the truck.

It was going from Orlando to Eglin Air Force Base in the Panhandle.

There was a head-on collision between a sports utility vehicle and a freight truck carrying the explosives Wednesday night. A Cooper City woman was killed and her two passengers critically injured...."

Someone said the ones killed were college students, but I have not seen that anywhere.

14. this is certainly
the accident being referred to. Obviously finding out what the munitions were is not at all an easy matter. They are no doubt hoping other bits of information maybe be out there or surface in the future. I suppose witnesses or anyone who may work of live near by would be invaluable.

9. Here's the Atlanta Constitution Journal's version
Florida's Turnpike reopens after collision involving explosives truck

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/1203/11turnpike.html

GROVELAND, Fla. -- The southbound lanes of the Florida's Turnpike reopened Thursday morning after being closed for more than 15 hours following a fatal collision between a sports utility vehicle and a truck carrying military explosives.

<snip>

The southbound lanes were reopened after the Air Force cleaned up explosives that were waylaid in the highway accident as they were being transported by truck from Orlando to Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle Wednesday night.

"We need to determine how much asphalt will be replaced," Rodriguez-Miller said. "We have an asphalt contractor and construction crew on hand so as soon as the area is cool enough to repair the road, they will do so."

A fire from a head-on collision between a sports utility vehicle and a freight truck carrying the explosives set off a ruptured case of blasting caps like "fireworks," witnesses told Florida Highway Patrol investigators. The accident shut down a stretch of highway that has on average 30,000 vehicles a day, Rodriguez-Miller said.

Waiting for the area to cool enough to replace the asphalt?
