1. Waxman is a great choice. He is a great statesman
and knows how to fight.

Why did you choose Serrod Brown?

14. because he says stuff like this...
"I am struck by the irony that President Bush is visiting Forsyth Technical Community College after proposing a 23% reduction in federal funding for community colleges. Who does he think will bear the brunt of retraining the more than 150,000 people in North Carolina who have lost their manufacturing jobs since he took office? Luckily, Congress rejected his proposed cuts to community colleges."

Congressman Miller said: "President Bush has more explaining to do in North Carolina than he can do in a couple of hours. I wish he'd visit folks who have been out of work for three years and have no idea where they'll find a job. I'd like to see President Bush tell them how well the economy is doing."

James Clyburn, representing the 6th district of South Carolina.

I might add that he also recently endorsed Dick Gephardt for president. :)

Clyburn is awesome.

9. Clyburn is great
http://www.house.gov/clyburn/

You're right I shouldn't have forgotten him. Good for him for endorsing Gephardt. No one else is talking about an International Living Wage like Gep is.

Here's Clyburn's great take on Jessica Lynch:
http://www.house.gov/apps/list/speech/sc06_clyburn/031125militarybenefits.html

"As the nature of war changes, I believe the Defense Department and Congress need to review the benefits we allocate for our soldiers. By and large, we eagerly supported the generous payments to 9-11 victims, because there was a national outcry. I am hearing similar outcries from military families on behalf of their loved ones. But the reaction from this Administration and the Republican-controlled Congress is that the money isn't available. They seem comfortable with the military's embellishment of Private Lynch's story. They have turned their backs on Specialist Johnson, the family of Private Prevista, and many other rank-and-file soldiers, leaving their financial and emotional futures in shambles. But Private Lynch has refused to back down in her loyalty to and support of her friends and fellow soldiers. To me, that it is the true mark of a heroine. "

I also admire ron paul (crazy libertarian from texas) i would never voe for him but he is so unpredictable he voted against IWR (unlike kerry gep and edwards) and voted against an amendment to the constitution that would ban burning the flag
ron paul on the war"An important aspect of the philosophy and the policy we are endorsing here is the pre-emption doctrine. This should not be passed off lightly. It has been done to some degree in the past, but never been put into law that we will pre-emptively strike another nation that has not attacked us. No matter what the arguments may be, this policy is new; and it will have ramifications for our future, and it will have ramifications for the future of the world because other countries will adopt this same philosophy …
"For more than a thousand years there has been a doctrine and Christian definition of what a just war is all about. I think this effort and this plan to go to war comes up short of that doctrine. First, it says that there has to be an act of aggression; and there has not been an act of aggression against the United States. We are 6,000 miles from their shores …

"My argument is when we go to war through the back door, we are more likely to have the wars last longer and not have resolution of the wars, such as we had in Korea and Vietnam. We ought to consider this very seriously …

"Also it is said we are wrong about the act of aggression; there has been an act of aggression against us because Saddam Hussein has shot at our airplanes. The fact that he has missed every single airplane for 12 years, and tens of thousands of sorties have been flown, indicates the strength of our enemy, an impoverished, Third World nation that does not have an air force, anti-aircraft weapons, or a navy …

"There is a need for us to assume responsibility for the declaration of war, and also to prepare the American people for the taxes that will be raised and the possibility of a military draft which may well come.”

17. yeah, Ron Paul's an interesting fellow
I don't agree with him on much, but you have to admire his independence. They call him "Dr. No" because he votes no on almost everything!

8. Louise Slaughter.
28th District of New York.

I had the pleasure to see her speak as a high school student... She talked about how she got involved in politics because of her love of the environment, of her opposition to NAFTA, and many other things... The bit I remember the most is perhaps a soundbite --- her talking about how being 'tough as nails' is important for her congressional role. In an odd way, her pronounciation really helped that impression -- she is originally from Kentucky, and so that particular way of speaking sounded somewhat unusual in NY --- but she sounded like a trule dedicated person w/a great fighting spirit.

I am unfortunately no longer represented by her ($#*$#*$*# redistricting), and never had a chance to cast a vote for her, but it is still great to see her consistently on the right (well, the left ;-) ) side on crucial votes.
