Do you believe Jim Moran should retire?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/03/11/moran.jews/

I remember when the story broke about how Jim Moran had blamed the Iraq war on the Jews.

His district is fairly Democratic leaning, so I really see no purpose in keeping him in office. Couldn't we get another liberal Dem who's not an anti-semite in there, to take his place? I remember hearing that Henry Waxman and a bunch of other Jewish congresspeople were very mad at him and told them that they would not support him if he ran for re-election.

Moran said, and I'm quoting from the article: "If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this," said Moran, whose remarks were first reported by the Reston Connection newspaper. "The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going, and I think they should."

Do you think that Jim Moran should retire and be replaced for these comments?

One note: I'm Jewish, and I opposed this war.

Btw, this is not a thread for I/P debate, it's a debate about whether anti-semitism should or should not be espoused by our Democratic representatives

5. Here are some results:
These are the results from Moran's 2002 re-election.

Precincts reporting: 100 percent
Va. House District 8 Party Votes %
James P. Moran* D 102,751 60
Scott Tate R 64,222 37
Other (1 candidate) 4,557 3

As you can see, Moran won rather easily. We don't lose anything by replacing him with another Democrat. It would be quite easy, because his district is so safe.

9. NO! Jim Moran represents me, and I like his leadership.....

he tells it like it is...

I was at the town hall meeting when Jim made those remarks...before the war started...and there were MANY Jewish people in the audience who agreed fully with Jim...

the majority of Jewish people here support Jim, agree with his statement, and do no scream anti-semitism for such a factual statement...if you are Jewish and against the war, then YOU could have CHANGED THE DIRECTION, and I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE !!!!....

the real problem is when others from OUTSIDE our multi-ethnic area step forward and start screaming anti-semitism...and spreading hate with statements like "a bunch of other (totally unidentified people) were very mad at him and told them that they would not support him if he ran for re-election".....

guess what, we Alexandria voters don't care about your 'unidentified' hate and innuendos and rumor mongering....and those 'unidentified' haters are not voting here...

Alexandria Virginia is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse areas in the country...we are around 50/50 white/minority population...those of you who live in your communities, go vote, but leave us alone...FACE THE TRUTH that Jim Moran raised...leaders of the Jewish community could have stopped the WAR on Iraq....many other religious leaders DID stand up against the WAR, but not the Jewish community....shame on those who didn't STAND UP...thousands of innocents' blood is on your hands...

10. That is not true at all
Moran did not say that Jewish leaders failed to stop the march to war, he said that they were instrumental in pushing this war through the Congress. For someone who resides in his district, I thought you would know more. I guess not.

12. What he said was completely unfactual
Jews did not support the war in a greater number than the general population.

And you reinforcing this bullshit conspiracy mongering that "leaders of the Jewish community could have stopped the WAR on Iraq" is a clear indicator of the lefts "anti-zionism" which can be very much as ignorant and narrow-minded as the far-rights anti-semitism

11. Btw,
Jim Moran is also an embarrassment to me because he beat his wife continuously, and has always had a hot temper. He doesn't belong in Congress.

14.  "because he beat his wife continuously..."? lol....rumor-mongering

Jim is a great guy...loved by the citizens of Alexandria Virginia...he was the Mayor of our city before running for Congress...

first, you call OUR Congressional Representative a Jew-hater, and NOW, you call OUR Congressional Representative a continuous wife beater.....

we like Jim Moran....we voted for Jim Moran....

you thought the war would make Israel safer, but surprise...it's like shooting yourself in the foot...not only is Israel less safe, but bush* will abandon Israel just as soon as American bases are fully set up and permanent in Iraq...AND....the whole war mess has made America realize that we are spending WAY TOO MUCH money on Israel, like over 11 Billion American Dollars annually, and the Iraq war will change that to a fraction of the current money hemorrage...lastly, Americans are sick of hearing screams of Jew-hater, when America has spent MORE money on Israel that any other country, continuously for more than 50 years, and gets no thanks ...Israel insults America every chance it gets....the sentiment toward Joe Lieberman should prove that the show is over....'you shot yourself in your own foot', as we say here in Virginia....

13. Moran is a very good Democrat
I've watched him for years from across the river and have a lot of respect for him. I don't think he's anti-semitic. He has the courage to speak his mind and his constituents know where he is coming from. The knee-jerk reactions all seem to come from people who don't know him. I dispute your assumption.
