Why are some here embracing propaganda "polls" alluva sudden ?
Until recently, people here seemed aware of the obvious:
Bush's number were incredibly high, emphasis on "incredible,"
and polls were and are clear propaganda.

But if polls are propping up a candidate, alluva sudden
they're the gospel? Why the mass amnesia?

Do people suddenly trust polls but not the mainstream media?
Or is DU just becoming yet another propaganda tool?

"Congress and Media are silent as the executive, through propaganda and skewed polls, seduces the public mind while heretofore unthinkable centers of power like Homeland Defense are being constructed and 4 percent of the country has recently been invited to join TIPS, a civilian spy system to report on anyone who look suspicious-or who objects to what the executive is doing at home or abroad." - Gore Vidal, page 49, "Dreaming War," 2002

1. 3rd possibility:
Are DU'ers embracing polls only when they further their agendas?

4th possibility:

Are DU'ers embracing polls only when they scare the heck out of them?

Like statistics: there are polls, damn polls and lies! People had better not pay any attention to any poll until the one in November of this year...and then we have to pay all our attention on getting the votes (all the votes) counted (accurately). Incredible!

2. One thing I learned about Dean and polls
Any poll that shows Dean in the lead is accurate and respectable, and a good gauge on the current leaders.

Any poll that shows Dean not in the lead or in 5-6th place like a recent South Carolina poll is deeply flawed and not to be trusted.

3. DU Propaganda
Yes, DU is becoming a propaganda tool.

How?

When folks here go out of their way to attack other democratic candidates as opposed to propping up their own.

This is then quoted, used, etc in the media, and other boards to show that the Democrats are easy to beat.

Thanks so much to all of you doing this. It ensures 4 more years of regime

4. Polls?!?!
Pundits use polls the way drunks use lampposts.

More for support than illumination.

5. Anybody have a good trusted known resource on who is behind each poll?
Who is the man behind the curtain?

7. IT isn't just one man..
It's any number of folks on this board who thrill in beating down other candidates without having the wherewithall to prop up their own.

It is folks, both men and women, whose egos are so large that they cannot think but in the negative of their competitors.

In the end, we'll all sink due to the actions of these few.

My suggestion--focus on the positive and stop plying the negative.

6. just like DK said
The media drives the content of the race based on obsessing with polls, money, and endorsements. Lots of people on DU share the same media-driven obsessions, and make issues secondary. Hey, how did the BAT do today? Look who is polling first in NH! And so on... a big bore. Let's not talk about sealed records, IRW waffling, or other pertinent issues. Check the polls! Watch the bat! (Oh, Freud, you were on to something there).

It isn't in the media's interest to cover the truly progressive candidacies of DK, CMB, or Sharpton. The so-called low polling numbers the media cites are just a dodge to cover for their contempt for an anti-corporate, people-centered platform.

9. Maybe because they don't have a snowball's chance in hell.
Did you ever think of that? The trouble with our democratic leaders is that they all think they can be president.

10. Wolf BLITZER Slammed an Anti-Iraq-Attack Guest
the other day, who had cited a poll of Iraqis with results of no-confidence in the Occupation-installed governing council. Yes, Wolf was like a mouthpiece for Shrub, at first starting timidly, "I would not put much creedence in polls in Iraq," but then as his courage increased as the thought of that ROVE would approve, stiffened up his editorial, ending up saying, "I would THROW THOSE POLLS OUT." Of course, he didn't bring this up when the Mal-administration is quoting polls saying how popular the occupation is. And today or yesterday he cited one of CNN's online polls, adding that it was unscientific but still worth citing, right.
