What decision are you postponing till the 04 election is decided?
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 11:01 PM by ILeft
My family has recently moved to a new city, but we are not buying a house before the 04 election is over. We've never rented before (we live in a part of the country where home ownership is still possible for most people), but four of us are living in a one bedroom apartment until we know our country is safe again. Might have to make a quick getaway, you know...

edit: I just realized this should probably be in the Lounge...

1. I'd say buy a house now
Since Bush drove the economy into the shitter, interest rates are the lowest they will ever be.

And once a Dem wins and rights this country's course, it will go up in value. Believe me, Americans will tire of this neocon nonsense soon enough. History will repeat itself, adn Dubya will repeat his daddy's mistakes.

Yes, I am highly optimistic.

22. I disagree with that assessment on buying a house
It depends on where you are. House prices are really high now because interest rates are so low. So, most people can afford more because they can borrow more. The market follows that and prices get higher and higher. If the economy gets better, most likely 15/30 yr mortgage interest is gonna go back up, most people will be able to afford less, and therefore house prices will tend to go down.

7. Lots of good schools in Canada!
If I were in that position, that's how I'd get my "foot in the door." I'd probably be looking in BC, though...weatherwise.

4. Retirement.
I don't want to jump ship on a job with full benefits until I see that things like Social Security and Medicare will survive in tolerable form.

5. Love it or leave it!
That is my big decision. If the little asshole steals another election, or if a mojority of the US voters actually fall for his line of bullshit, I won't love it, and like a lot of others, will probably bail out. The fascists will declare that they have a mandate, and will put the final nails in the coffin.

Anybody see smirky trying to look honest and concerned as he addressed the Halliburton controversy? Holy shit! How can anyone not see through his act?

6. I vowed not to buy a new car
until Bush is out of the White House. Absolutely refuse to help the economy until he is out of office. Some things can't be deferred but I figure I can wait for a new car, I will drive mine until (hopefully) Jan '05. And I have owned my car for over 10 years now, it is a '93 Acura Integra (the one with the Dean for America bumpersticker) so by 2005, I will be more than ready for a new one. But I swear, I will drive until that f*cking asshole is voted out of office and become just a bad, bad history lesson!

11. Anything to do with upgrading the house we are paying for...
I'm watching and trying to see where our money should be going very closely.

We can't move stocks because they are in retirement funds...IRAs, so can consider those a loss :(

We bought the house two years ago knowing it would need some upgrades due to the excellent price we paid. The house needs a new roof, new windows, new paint job, landscape upgraded, the pool resurfaced, new tile, new ceiling job, new a/c, etc.

Unless DK is elected president I will probably not splurge on anything other than day to day needs for another 4 years after the election...taking a wait and see attitude even though I will vote for the leader at that time.

Definitely will never be in debt again and will try to mix our cash savings in various currencies.

12. We are waiting to decide whether to move to Canada.
I'm not sure I can get the hubby and kid to go, but if things get bad enough, it's run for the border time.
We also are waiting for '04 to start double and triple house payments to get the house paid off early. Will only do this if the Dems win.

Oh, and we aren't buying ANYTHING (no Christmas presents, no replacing old appliances, etc.) until Chimp boy is OUT.

14. Agree with the double/triple house payments IF Dems win too!
I wanted New Zealand, but hubby is NOT even thinking about that cuz he's too emotionally tied to our families :P I'm sure I couldn't run off and leave my family either...none of them will leave or even think about it

If I even discussed it they would probably want to send me to the funny farm :wow:

17. Hey, I don't think my wife wants to go to Canada...
Are either of you attractive, early 30s blondes that are great in the sack? I'll accept Canada, Ireland, or Norway as possible locations. Maybe the three of us could go form some kind of cult over there. ;) ; )

23. As a lesbian with adopted children
who could be snatched away...we bought a home in Nova Scotia. We rent it out. It cost $21,000USD. My partner bought a forward contract and locked in the price before Bush got us into Iraq. Had she not done this it would have been $25,000usd. The house has 3 bedrooms.
