Why Haliburton will get away with anything
When it comes to Haliburton's latest coruption(over charging the army for gas) Bush, The Pentagon and Re-building Contracts for Iraq..I think alot of readers are forgeting one thing. I dont remember the specifics to well but around a month ago Someone, whether by Bush or Congress, was appointed to over see re-building contracts for Iraq. This appointee was a well known Clinton basher and partisan Republican who now holds what was normally a non-partisan job. The Job that over sees re-building contracts.
So when ever you hear the Slime at the White House saying something along the lines of" Im confidant that Haliburton will pay back what they owe, and were going to get to the bottom of this situation once the pentagon looks into it!!" Its just more Bull be cause it will all be neatly swept under the rug at the pentagon, and forgoten about. But I do hope for a different outcome.

1. Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo
makes some more nice points about the situation.

Yesterday, President Bush said that if Halliburton's overcharged then they've gotta pay up.

"I appreciate the Pentagon looking out after the taxpayers' money," the president said. "They put the issue right out there on the table for everybody to see, and they're doing good work. We're going to watch, we're going to make sure that as we spend the money in Iraq that it's spent well and spent wisely. And their investigation will lay the facts out for everybody to see."

Yet, just a week earlier, acting on the president's orders, the Deputy Secretary of Defense signed a directive which hamstrung precisely the sort of internal audits of the funds Congress just approved for work in Iraq -- just the sort of crackerjack oversight the president says he loves.

2. They'll accept.................
this $65 million (or however much it is) slap on this wrist and gladly pay any fine or pay back the money. It's the BILLIONS that they're NOT getting caught stealing that really matter. No one will investigate the billions going down the Halliburton drain pipe.

3. a classic "people of the lie" maneuver
Bush does it all the time.

For those who haven't read the book "people of the lie" refers to people who are evil. No joke.

Evil people lie. That's what defines them. They say "yeah, we'll do that" and then they don't. They never intend to do what they say.

You think Halliburton is ever actually gonna pay that money back?

HA!
