Finally, the myth of "Saddam loyalists" will die.

It's huge - suffering Iraqi people finally get justice, and hopefully the men and women on the ground will have an easier time with the general populace.

However, it's also bittersweet - as the terrorist acts will continue (and probably increase) as long as the country is occupied, and afterward. The people of Iraq (and America) will slowly realize what's really been going on, and the truth will finally be realized.

In the long run, this changes little -- just like the occupation.

All those people who Saddam was cruel to (there were many) will finally know he is gone. On the other hand, you can't blame further violence now on some nebulous network of Saddam loyalists--Saddam isn't there any longer.

I was wondering if this will be an excuse to say--"Whoop, war's done, we won, let's get the hell out of there!"

edit: I hope this will bring to bear media exposure of how we MADE Saddam who he was, that we armed him, gave him CIA tracking of his political enemies, etc. But that's one thing I will never get for Christmas.

"democracy" in Iraq. Bush will still have to overcome his problem that if he actually brings democracy to Iraq, they will vote in a religious Shiite government, which he doesn't want.

If Saddam is gone, then the people will feel "free" to embrace US values and democracy.

I think, imho, this just means the gloves are off. People are now free to support their choice of freedom fighter aka insurgent aka terrorist. People who held back because Saddam might come back and catch them fighting for a mullah he didn't like or worse, don't have to hold back anymore. Instead of being caught between Saddam and the US, the rock and the hard place, the only enemy left standing is the United States. It's a war for independence, and it will devolve into civil war.

If our troops think this is going to give them a break, I feel really scared for them.

Can't blame Saddam anymore.

the troops outta iraq or at least some of them it will be made clear that it wasnt ever about saddam the iraqis/forgieners might up the ante now that they have gotten one of their dictators out they might feel inspired to ousst their new one bremmer

doesn't very likely to be a secular one. that means it probably won't be our best friend no matter what.
and yes -- we have certainly not seen the end of those who want to kill americans{and other coalition members} occupying their country.
