if the US broke international law in attacking Iraq…

1. Good question!
Yep, it looks like the Colonel of the Urinal (Dubya) is gonna have to look for an informal trial just as far away from the media as he can get.

6. You are right, it will be...
completely stage-managed. That's why they've been touting these "Iraqi" trials for captured "war criminals." (Which brings up the question of how did the Saddam Hussein crew commit war crimes if there was no war. But details are pesky things.)

2. that's why it won't happen
Plus, I'm sure they've not been amused with Milosevic telling his side of the story either. Always makes it harder when it's not black and white...

How come Sharon isn't dragged to the Hague? He will never be tried, and I think he's been deemed a war criminal already.

4. remember how coherent he was in his dan rather interview
that time? well reasoned and much more likeable than *

I'm not saying he's done no wrong, but things are rarely black and white, and godnoze you can't trust what we've been sold

7. No there is no good reason , but it isn't about reasons
It is about US encouragement, enabling and cooperation!! You don't think Bush wants to have people reminded of what the very guys in his admin now did back in the '80's... to have it come out and be everywhere on the media?

That said, a thing like hte trial of Saddam Hussein doesn't happen over night. Until well past election '04.

5. only Saddam knows where the "WMDS" are
so how can they justify bungling that by killing him. If anything, his life is critical to protect right now.

8. so they captured a guy who cooperated fully with the UN?
now what?
try the man who cooperated fully with the UN for war crimes?

let's play 'turn the tables.' if the UN decided america needed to be liberated from bushco, attacked and occupied the US, wouldn't we be pissed? hell, yeah? would we dance in the streets if someone dropped a dime on * (which dan rather just claimed as the reason for saddam's capture), wouldn't we dance in the street? of course. but we would still hate our invaders.

9. right, and...
the idea that this would stop further attacks is based on a hierarchical command structure when these fighters use cell structure.

10. Well
They've already said that they will be trying him in Iraq in front of an Iraqi court. When and how that court will be convened seems to still be up in the air. Or, for that matter, whether or not they will have the power back up in time for it....

Or water...

Or representitive government...

As a side question, what is the juristiction with regard to the Hague? Does it only deal with war crimes involving interactions between countries or does it have powers over internal crimes (ethnic cleaning, etc)? Is war against neighbors considered a war crime?
