Saddam's capture is a "straw man"
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 08:07 AM by greyl
just like the fall of his statue, just like mission accomplished, just like Hillary vs gw in Iraq.
We have many thousands of solid reasons that strengthen our platform as contrasted with republicans.

How much of the valuable insight and truthtelling here at DU has been centered around Saddam not being captured? Only a little bit.

Saddam is captured? Good. Bring our soldiers home.

"Straw man. This is the fallacy of refuting a caricatured or extreme version of somebody's argument, rather than the actual argument they've made. Often this fallacy involves putting words into somebody's mouth by saying they've made arguments they haven't actually made, in which case the straw man argument is a veiled version of argumentum ad logicam."

edit: bolding

1. Not only a strawman
but it will finally bring light to the facts that

1. we DIDN'T get Osama, despite a pledge Bush made

2. we DIDN'T find weapons of mass destruction

3. and if attacks continue, his capture is meaningless

6. I'm betting #3 is a sure thing.
With Hussein in custody all those people who feared his return to power are free to come after the occupying forces. That just seems logical to me, and especially coupled with the fact that I've never believed all the attacks were Ba'athists and Saddam loyalists.

The fact that the one guy we belive is responsible for attacking US soil is still running around loose ought to be a bigger concern than it appears to be. WTH is wrong with people?

Hubby laughed at me when Bremer delivered that assinine line and I rolled my eyes and said "OH LORD! Can I go puke now?!". We got WHO ya jackass? Hussein didn't do sh*t to us!

3. The last thing Bush and company wanted was a live Saddam
Now they will actually have to charge him with something and try him.
He will be able to embarrass Bush and become a rallying point for all opposition. They would have much preferred to kill him. We all know it was never about Saddam, it's still about oil and the theft of all Iraqi assets.

5. No no no...they want him alive
The trial of Saddam will run all summer long and will take up much of the news. Then they capture Osama about September just in time for the elections.
Bush and co. will exploit this to the max and it will be used to jack the polls to make his victory in the election plausible.

7. Now whenever W has a dip in the polls
He can just drag out Saddam and show him off.
