Clark congratulates Sanchez, officers, & troops for Saddam Capture
and hopes that this will lead to less loss of American lives.

Just on CNN. In my opinion this is the way for candidates to support this, don't mention W's name just as W won't mention Osama. I am not saying that those two are comparable.

Hey guess what W is going to go back to work today! On a Sunday! How about that?

6. I think this works to Clark's advantage in the primary
Off the top of my head it makes the General Election harder for the Democrat, but it might work to Clark's advantage in the primary because a Democratic victory cannot be based on Bush's failure. Also I believe Clark has more vision than any other candidate which combined with his military background makes him more attractive. So to recap I think it makes Clark stronger in the primaries, but it presents a greater challenge for the Democrats in November. Clark is the best man for that challenge.

Also I reposted a thread I started in November about the Democrats not relying on Bush being a failure.

8. This benefits Clark for both the primaries and the General.
Clearly he is our best guy to take on AWOL - and he's the one who can clean up the mess made by these thugs in power. Rebuilding Iraq would be better done with a new face, a fresh set of ideas, someone who has done this before. It will be a very positive message. Clark is up to the task.

Perfect statement by him re the capture.

from hearing the brainless wonder actually went to work on a Sunday :7...I see once again, Clark plays this exactly the right way. He knows what he's doing....gives credit where credit is due and NOT to the brainless wonderboy. I can't wait to hear him expound on this!

30. W showed up one Monday last year with a big bruise under his eye
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 11:34 AM by underpants
OF course everyone wanted to know what had happened. The official story was that W was watching football with Barney the dog choked on a pretzel blacked out and fell and hit his face on the furniture.

See W supposedly doesn't drink anymore (aside from a non-alcoholic beer now and again) so that is what they said.

He didn't get any medical treatment for it either.

18. Another advantage - we have "failed miserably"
in reconstruction with or without Saddam - Clark has the philosophy AND experience in doing this ala Kosovo, Bosnia etc.

Getting Saddam will make the problems more apparent - we cannot blame him anymore.

Bushies will concentrate on mass graves while Halliburton snorts at the trough and our troops will still be caught in factions crossfire.

Clark is a buddy of Holbrooke's - time to make him more visible in explaining how to really bring us home.

19. I am pleased, but not surprised at General Clark's response...
he has been and will be caring and concerned about the troops on the ground so he would give his congratulations to those who take the risks. I hope he will also comment, at some point, on how it would be in the US's interest to have Saddam tried at the Hague, under international auspices.

20. He Spoke About Trying Osama At the Hague
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 10:46 AM by cryingshame
MATTHEWS: General, do you think Osama bin Laden, if we catch him, when we
catch him, should be tried here at the U.S. or in the Hague, the international court?
CLARK: I would like to see him tried in the Hague, and I tell you why. I think it's
very important for U.S. legitimacy and for building other support in the war on terror for
trying them in the Hague,e under international law with an international group of
justices, bringing witnesses from other nations. Remember, 80 other nations lost citizens
in that strike on the World Trade Center. It was a crime against humanity, and he needs
to be tried in international court.
MATTHEWS: Well, 3,000 Americans were killed here. Do you believe he should be
held exempt from capital punishment, because if you send him to Hague he will be. They
don't have capital punishment at the Hague.
CLARK: I think that's a separate issue. I think that's a separate issues.
MATTHEWS: No, it's a key issue, because the sentencing limitation, they do not
execute people at the Hague.
CLARK: I think that you can adequately punish Osama bin Laden, and you've got to
look beyond simple retribution against an individual. You have to look at what's in the
long-term security interest in the security in America and you have to look at how we
handle the war on terror from here on out.
MATTHEWS: But doesn't life in Holland beat life in a cave?
CLARK: Not in a Dutch prison. Chris, they're under water, they're damp, they're
cold, they're really miserable.

21. Wow, Clark is right on top of this!
Wesley Clark calls for transparant trial of Saddam

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=524&e=1&u=/ap/20031214/ap_wo_en_po/eu_pol_netherlands_clark_saddam

He is exactly right, now is the time to go multinational and have Saddam tried before the world not in some newly created court with only the US in control.

He's looking like the best potential candidate right now.

23. That was wise of Clark
The Dem candidates should keep all negativity and sour grapes out of this discussion (at least for the next few weeks). The aftermath of this situation will speak for itself: Bush STILL lied, thousands STILL died, and the "war on terra" has no ending. Over 3 mil jobs are still gone, and Republicans want to take away overtime pay.

26. Wrong
The Iraqis captured Saddam and gave him to the US troops.

Clark shouldn't be congratulating any non-Iraqi right now.

Sheesh, if I was the dude who Saddam was handed to, does that make me worthy of a congratulations? NO.

He may as well shout "God bless America" from a mountaintop in the heart of the Muslim area of the world while he's at it.
